The Clinton Foundation Is A Conflicts-Of-Interest Machine (get-rich-quick on others' misfortunes)

EDITED WITH EMPHASIS ADDED -- The Clinton Foundation bills itself as a "charity." But it operates more like an exclusive club that brings wealthy, famous people into the Clinton orbit by fashioning fund-raising schemes to solve world problems, like climate change and poverty......the wealthy donors often get something in return — and that’s where the Clintons are running into trouble.

One of the clearest examples of this involves Canadian magnate Frank Giustra, who made his pile from both filmmaking and mining. Tycoon Giustra has given the Clinton Foundation an astounding $100 million in the last decade. The Washington Post showed Bill Clinton, himself, has borrowed Giustra’s private jet 26 times since 2005, with the two traveling together on some of those trips.

Bill Clinton typically billed the Foundation millions in travel expenses "for charitable causes." But Giustra was traveling for business — and having Bill Clinton as his traveling buddy gave him access he would not have had. On one such charitable trip, the two buddies dined in Kazakhstan with the nation’s president. Days later, Giustra closed a huge deal to buy lucrative uranium mines in the country........ the same thing happened when he and Clinton visited Colombia.

And in many cases, these profitable business deals for Clinton Foundation donors landed at Hillary Clinton's State Department for approval. Another example-- the State Department approved a deal to let Boeing and other U.S. contractors supply $29 billion worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia. Years before, Saudi Arabia had given $10 million to the Clinton Foundation. And months before the deal, Boeing donated $900,000. (Reported by International Business Times).

No evidence of corruption by the Clintons has yet to be found....just conflicts of interest — a lot of them. And that Clinton-charity orbit that includes movie stars, millionaires and foreign leaders has only kept growing — for better and for worse.

At the lavish Clinton Global Initiative event hosted by a king in Marrakesh, Bill Clinton was asked why he isn't defending the Clinton Foundation from increased scrutiny.

The question came from billionaire supporter Mo Ibrahim: "I opened the newspaper and I was shocked to see these attacks on the foundation." The billionaire continued, " What is this money for? What have you done with it?"

"I just work here," Clinton responded. "I don't know."

Donations to the Clinton Foundation, and a Russian Takeover OF US uranium deposits

EXCERPT Uranium investors’ efforts to buy mining assets in Kazakhstan and the United States led to a takeover bid by a Russian state-owned energy company. The investors gave millions to the Clinton Foundation over the same period, while Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s office was involved with approving the Russian bid.

As if to underscore the point, five months later Mr. Giustra held a fund-raiser for the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative, a project aimed at fostering progressive environmental and labor practices in the natural resources industry, to which he had pledged $100 million.

The star-studded Canadian gala, at a conference center in Toronto, featured performances by Elton John and Shakira and celebrities like Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Robin Williams encouraging contributions from the many so-called F.O.F.s — Friends of Frank — in attendance, among them Mr. Telfer. In all, the evening generated $16 million in pledges, according to an article in The Globe and Mail. “None of this would have been possible if Frank Giustra didn’t have a remarkable combination of caring and modesty, of vision and energy and iron determination,” Mr. Clinton told those gathered, adding: “I love this guy, and you should, too."

But what had been a string of successes was about to hit a speed bump.

By June 2009, a little over a year after the star-studded evening in Toronto, Uranium One’s stock was in free-fall, down 40 percent. Mr. Dzhakishev, the head of Kazatomprom, had just been arrested on charges that he illegally sold uranium deposits to foreign companies, including at least some of those won by Mr. Giustra’s UrAsia and now owned by Uranium One.

Publicly, the company tried to reassure shareholders. Its chief executive, Jean Nortier, issued a confident statement calling the situation a “complete misunderstanding.” He also contradicted Mr. Giustra’s contention that the uranium deal had not required government blessing. “When you do a transaction in Kazakhstan, you need the government’s approval,” he said, adding that UrAsia had indeed received that approval.

But privately, Uranium One officials were worried they could lose their joint mining ventures. American diplomatic cables made public by WikiLeaks also reflect concerns that Mr. Dzhakishev’s arrest was part of a Russian power play for control of Kazakh uranium assets.

At the time, Russia was already eying a stake in Uranium One, Rosatom company documents show. Rosatom officials say they were seeking to acquire mines around the world because Russia lacks sufficient domestic reserves to meet its own industry needs.

It was against this backdrop that the Vancouver-based Uranium One pressed the American Embassy in Kazakhstan, as well as Canadian diplomats, to take up its cause with Kazakh officials, according to the American cables. “We want more than a statement to the press,” Paul Clarke, a Uranium One executive vice president, told the embassy’s energy officer on June 10, the officer reported in a cable. “That is simply chitchat.” What the company needed, Mr. Clarke said, was official written confirmation that the licenses were valid.

The American Embassy ultimately reported to the secretary of state, Mrs. Clinton. Though the Clarke cable was copied to her, it was given wide circulation, and it is unclear if she would have read it; the Clinton campaign did not address questions about the cable.

The muck now surfacing from the greedy Clintons is bad enough---but what they're hiding is the bigger problem.

ITEM--The NY Times reported the "Clinton Giustra Enterprise Partnership" collected about $33 million US tax dollars from Hillary's State Dept between 2008 and 2013.....$25 million of which was passed back across the border to the US-based Clinton Foundation. Plus---Giustra pledged $100 million to the (cough) Foundation after Clinton helped him clinch the mega-bucks uranium deal.

ITEM---millions of dollars and 1,100 donors are shrouded in mystery in the Canadian Giustra/Clinton operation. The Clinton Foundation signed a “memorandum of understanding” with the Obama White House agreeing to reveal its contributors every year. The agreement stipulates that the “Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative” (as the charity was then-known) is part of the Clinton Foundation and must follow “the same protocols.”

SURPRISE: It hasn’t.

Caught w/ his pants down, Giustra's backtracking like crazy---saying Canada’s federal privacy law "forbids" the Canadian-registered Clinton charity, from revealing its donors. A memo he provided news organs cites “fiduciary obligations” to its contributors and Canada’s Personal Information Privacy and Electronic Disclosure Act. “We are not allowed to disclose even to the Clinton Foundation the names of our donors,” Giustra says.

However, Canadian tax and privacy law experts were dubious of the Clinton/Giustra claims. A former director knowledgeable about tax policy at Canada's Department of Finance, said he wasn't aware of any tax laws that would prevent the Clinton charity from releasing its donors' names. "There's nothing that would preclude them from releasing donors' names. It's entirely up to them."

We need to nail GMP Securities Ltd., the company that worked on debt issue that raised $260 million for Uranium One. This financial sleight of hand facilitated the Russian takeover of US uranium deposits.

GMP Securities Ltd says it's donating "a portion of its profits" to the Clinton Foundation.
