Six weeks after a gunfight among motorcycle gangs and police left nine dead in Waco, Texas, more than 170 people still face serious charges even though just a handful remain jailed, reflecting what some defense lawyers say is an overzealous approach by authorities.
Lawyers for some of those arrested in the May 17 shooting say their clientsincluding military veterans, municipal employees and a man who says he doesnt even own a motorcyclewere bystanders who played no role in the violence at the Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco, but were nonetheless forced to spend weeks behind bars. As of June 30, all but six of the 177 arrested in the shooting have been released.

But as authorities piece together who actually did the shooting, criticism continues to mount from some legal experts and defense attorneys who say Texas authorities have exceeded the limits of the law by holding so many suspects, and for setting bond on almost all of them at $1 million.
You dont throw everyone in jail and sort it all out later, said Susan Criss, a former Texas judge who represents several of the many bikers facing felony charges of engaging in organized criminal activity.
McLennan County District Attorney Abelino Reyna declined through a spokesperson to comment, citing the criminal investigation. Police initially detained 239 individuals on the scene at Twin Peaks and determined they had probable cause to arrest all but 62 of them.

Still no coroner’s report. Whatever it is they are covering up must really reek.
The “modified limited hang out” has morphed back to a fully constructed stone wall. (Except for little crumbs that inadvertently get dropped in legal proceedings.)
Reyna is all in for the long haul on this.
In fact you'd think they all follow a script
Am I wrong about this...but isn’t a typical coroners report out by the 10th day after a murder? With toxicology reports like six to eight weeks after the event?
I don’t see the state or county winning many of these, and the attempt to negotiate everything down to 30 days in jail will make the episode comical.
They are scared to death to tell the public how many of the dead and wounded were shot by the cops.
<,p> And of those 62 , 61 were undercover police offices and 1 was an informant.
You are not going to get one until it is doctored to clear the police. If you are waiting for an honest, truthful report, forget it.
bump
Seems like now would be the best time to ABOLISH any and all claims of Qualified Immunity and Taxpayer Funded Legal Services for any and all Public Servants and Public Employees.
If they did nothing wrong, they have nothing to hide or worry about.
>>> Still no coroners report. <<<
I’ve been concerned about that also. No notice of an inquest I could find and no coroners reports online, so I suspect that all of this is being done either on paper or the DPS computer systems so it’s not accessible.
Most disturbingly, there’s been no media reporting on these issues. That’s either stonewalling or someone is leaning hard on the press.
I’ve also only found references to three biker funerals so far and the families of those killed have been incomprehensibly quiet.
Again, that suggests to me that there’s an active effort in place to minimize media reporting and some kind of gag order in place on the families.
Very disturbing.
>>> They are scared to death to tell the public how many of the dead and wounded were shot by the cops. <<<
My guess is that the SWATs panicked and shot everybody holding a gun regardless of whether that individual was an aggressor or engaged in self-defence. I’m guesstimating that the cops killed 6 people without giving anyone a chance to surrender.
If so, that explains stonewalling the videos and autopsies
This one from the WSJ is the first I have found in WEEKS from any msm source. (Slipped in on a holiday weekend, though.)
close...but I’m betting they killed some not armed.
They can make excuses for shooting anybody holding a weapon.
“Ive also only found references to three biker funerals “
I haven’t seem all, but more than three.

I suspect that the MSM tracks names in news articles and “Clint Broden” appears to be a very heavy hitter. If so, then Matthew Clendennen has some serious money behind him and Waco becomes a slightly larger story.
I also suspect that DA Reyna has suddenly found himself on the defensive and over-matched.
Thanks for that. It’s good to know that the families have some closure.
My guess is that whatever group of LEO types did this -- SWATs, Feds, ATF, or some other official force -- acted with cool-headed deliberation, calculation, and confidence. I have seen ZERO evidence of panic on the side of law enforcement in the aftermath EXCEPT for quickly silencing and stowing the original "official" Waco police force spokesman, Patrick Swanton. That is the ONLY place that my nose has caught any whiff of panic.
It was TEXAS, a legal-carry state. Those SWATs or whoever they were KNEW for DAMNED SURE that there'd be people holding guns there, as there would be in ANY public place where carrying is permitted and shooting broke out.
Well, I haven’t heard any reports of the police yelling “Drop your guns!” and they certainly didn’t try to sort out aggressors from defenders before firing.
The other option to panic firing would be mass murder under the guise of ‘procedure’.
Thinking back on it, We still don’t know how many officers fired. We know of ‘12 casings recovered’ that were fired by Waco police but we don’t know if other agencies fired or how many Waco officers actually pulled the trigger. At this point I’m wondering if we’ve been intentionally misled by those ‘12 casings’.
I’ve also realised today that there is an amazing lack of politicians publicly polishing their apples. If this was a good bust, we should have the Waco Mayor, DA, Chief of Police and others bragging about the good work they’d done. There’s just a little too much silence...
While they say they don’t want to influence the potential jury pool and so they can’t release the autopsy reports I fail to understand how prior knowledge of the truth tampers with a potential juror.
