The Texas Attorney General has responded to the “newly invented federal constitutional right to same-sex marriage” created by the “activist” U.S. Supreme Court by telling Texas officials “Texas must speak with one voice against this lawlessness.” He issued an opinion and said Texans must “act on multiple levels to further protect religious liberties for all Texans” and must “immediately do anything we can to help our County Clerks and public officials who now are forced with defending their religious beliefs against the Court’s ruling.”
In a statement obtained by Breitbart Texas, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton stated that “the United States Supreme Court again ignored the text and spirit of the Constitution to manufacture a right that simply does not exist.”
Paxton continued, “In so doing, the Court weakened itself and weakened the rule of law, but did nothing to weaken our resolve to protect religious liberty and return to democratic self-government in the face of judicial activists attempting to tell us how to live.”
The Attorney General called the majority opinion in Obergefell v. Hodges a “flawed ruling” and “flawed direction … on Constitutionality and applicable state laws.” He accused the five justices once again of “ignor[ing] the text and spirit of the Constitution to manufacture a right that simply does not exist.”

SCOTUS says that these Clerks have forfeited their 1st Amendment religious rights (and conscience) once they agreed to be employed by the State/Local government.
These guys are “screwed”! And, if they are men/women of conscience (rather than a paycheck) they should resign their position (if only to impede the “homonazi” infiltration).
Tough call for all involved.

Obviously this fight will continue no matter how desperately the left screeches “Its over”.
A few months back the Michigan legislature passed a law protecting businesses and churches from prosecution if they refuse to violate their religious beliefs. I’m sure it will be challenged before the snow flies.
I don’t think it’s a tough call.
If you work for the government, you do what the government says. Government “marriages” aren’t ordained by God.
Why should a clerk care? It literally is, ‘just a piece of paper’.
Now that is how it’s done!
I wish Michigan got some of what Texas is drinking.
I live in Texas, rural Texas, to be more exact. Unfortunately, the last best hope that Texas holds out for many on this board simply does not exist. Most Texans, particularly natives, side with the values of social, economic and political conservatism. But we have a lot of really politically ignorant people and a many who revel in government assistance, Places like Austin and inner city Houston Dallas-FW, San Antonio etc. are blue and getting bluer.
Let's do this again, and get it right this time.
Texas, Lousiana and Mississippi all look set to buck the decision. Mississippi may in fact, have the strongest opposition so far.
Federal courts have already ruled this to be acceptable. The AG cites the pharmacist case.
What if states begin to act like sovereign states again?
What can the Federal Government really do?
What if states refused to co-operate with Federal agencies and perhaps go one step further become a buffer between their citizens and the Federal Government?
The Federal Government is a bully.
And you just hit on the reason why it'll never happen.
When government steps over their bounds, they are to be called to account. This is not a private business and you do not check your constitutional rights, conscience or your inalienable rights at the door.
Those governments are sworn to uphold the Constitution, you do not swear fealty to der fuerher.
Will the same rules apply to Mosques? Will they be sued and persecuted if a gay wedding is denied? I’m sure we know that answer already.
It’s ridiculous that they (5 life-time appointees to a court in DC) dictate a moral code for Texas.
...was it the 70’s when the gays were coming out of the closet? Who was President then, what was happening in our Country at that time? ...any one remember?....
Maybe the US needs to start making the SCOTUS geographic,
Born or raised in different parts of the country, law degrees from different parts of the country.
It appears largely, we have a bunch of Ivy League folks shoving these decisions on us though I admit, I don’t know the exact details, I assume it is probably so. (And admittedly, even many colleges get infected with the liberal virus, UT Law School? I don’t know, probably Duke’s though)
Some people they say like some Mormons might support it because it will open the door to Polygamy, that surely would apply to Muslims as well.
