Supreme Court makes it official: Health care is a right
The Boston Globe ^ | June 25, 2015 | Joan Vennochi

Message of King v. Burwell to Republicans: It’s over.

With the Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling, Obamacare is forever part of the country’s social and economic fabric.

Now it’s time to celebrate what that represents.

The principle that health care is a right, not a privilege, as President Obama exulted.

And that it might not have happened without a Republican named Mitt Romney.

The path to achieving near universal health care coverage came about because Romney, then governor of Massachusetts, worked with Ted Kennedy, a liberal US senator, to make it happen. They worked from two premises: Society has an obligation to provide affordable health coverage, and every individual has a responsibility to get coverage....

Vennochi’s sneering, arrogant schadenfreude pose is a little overdone. Sowing the wind still means having to reap the whirlwind.

It is not a right.

No one believes in freedom any longer because it requires them to be responsible for themselves.

Message to Joan: Nope. Not even close.

I saw the man child smugly come out and strut, saying his Death Panels were “woven” into the fabric of America. He is as wrong as SCOTUS was about the text of the law.

Message to Joan: Obamacare is highly unpopular with Americans.

Little Joan, I suspect, would have said the same thing about another ruling... “The message of Dred Scott v. Sandford to Republicans: It’s over.”

Little Joan would’ve been wrong then, and is wrong now.

There is no universal health are. Less people are getting healthcare and it is costing them more.

What there is is universal crap so-called health insurance that is over-priced (unless you are a leech sucking on the government teat) and sucks, you assholes.

Yes, and I’ll take a moment to try and educate again...Romney was dealing with a STATE. A state has a 10th amendment right to deal with its own citizens to solve its own problems.

Healthcare is not a right, and is certainly not within the purview of the federal government.

Joan is wrong, and is on the wrong side of history.

We’ll win—it is just now going to take longer.

Obamacare is forever part of the country’s social and economic fabric.

like border enforcement and immigration laws.

to be ignored and removed at the first opportunity

All it affirmed is that the Chief Justice is compromised/blackmailed and isn't fit to serve on the court. The train wreck has been ensured and the can kicked down the road for a bit longer. Congress needs to repeal the whole mess and return to a normal insurance market with actuarial risk based rates. Spreading the wealth by socializing the risk when those paying the costs have no control over the risk is unsatisfactory.

One Republican has an outstanding idea. A bill requiring sitting justices to enroll in Obamacare. Make them reap the whirlwind they have created by spitting on their responsibility to uphold the laws instead of legislating from the bench.

You are so wrong. Romney felt health care was a State problem. He stated many time that it was not a Federal right. Wake up! It became Massachusetts law because the legislature as well as Kennedy and the Massachusetts people wanted it. Romney had nothing to do with the design but acted on it because of the Democratic machine forced the issue in a hard Democratic State.

Somehow I know the NWO and the preservation of the government citizens database aka The Mark of the Beast system has something to do with all of this.

I know communism allows you to be stupid but you should use your gray matter for something other than just a hat.

I've given it some thought and since people seem so absurdly averse to hanging politicians from lamp posts, I'd accept the use of a guillotine instead. At least for USCC Justices.

Health care as a “right” is a governmental mandate to enslave through dependency.

I wouldn’t excuse Romneycare in that fashion. The Tenth Amendment does not give the states any right to create a socialist government within its borders, especially in light of Article 4 Section 4 of the Constitution.

I have been privy to an interesting ongoing story with a close friend of mine. She ended up leaving her job because her company was forcing her to pay $500 per month towards her medical insurance ... and the insurance didn't even cover most of her medical expenses anyway. It had something like a $5,000 annual deductible that had to be expended before anything other than a routine checkup was covered.

What the hell is the point of getting an insurance policy that costs $11,000 every year and doesn't cover what you need anyway?

Yeah, that's some "right" we've got here -- "woven into the fabric" of America these days.

The good news (I suppose) is that I suspect a lot of illegal immigrants from Latin America have finally figured out what this "amnesty" game is all about. The United States of America is desperately trying to find another 30 million people to get a Social Security card, get in on this "right," and starting paying $11,000 every year for useless insurance coverage.

There was also a time it could have been bleated:

“Supreme Court makes it official: ownership of other humans is a right”.

How can healthcare be a right? What if all doctors were to quit or retire? How do you force someone to care for you?
