At a vigil to honor her slain son, NOPD officer Daryle Holloway's mom asked the hundreds of people gathered to honor her son's life to pray for his accused killer's mom and family.
"I can't imagine what that woman is going through," Olander Holloway said Tuesday (June 23). "I have no hard feelings in my heart for them, and I want you all to pray for her."
Daryle Holloway, a 22-year veteran of the New Orleans Police Department, died Saturday after he was shot by a man he was transporting to Orleans Parish Prison.
Travis Boys, who escaped after the shooting, was caught the next day. He is facing first-degree murder of a police officer and aggravated escape charges.
Those who knew Holloway said he well-liked and always smiling.
A large crowd gathered in the street in front of Olander Holloway's home Tuesday evening many wearing blue to show their support for law enforcement. They prayed together, lighted candles and released blue balloons into the sky.
The crowd danced as a brass band and Mardi Gras Indians marched down the 2000 block of Kerlerec Street at the start of the vigil, and several dozen motorcycles followed.
The motorcyclists were members of the city's more than 30 motorcycle clubs, and said they were riding to show their support for Holloway.
