Germans are more negative about the United States than the rest of Europe, but still largely support Americans’ efforts to fight ISIS, according to a new poll.

More than half of Germans (53 percent) said they did not believe the United States government respects the personal freedoms of its people, according to a Pew Research Center report published on Tuesday.

Forty-three percent of Germans said they thought the US government did respect citizens’ freedoms, while Americans themselves seemed on the fence.

Though in the US most (51 percent) said their government respected personal freedoms, 47 percent disagreed. …

They are talking about the government, not Joe and Jane Sixpack. And they’d be right.

I haven’t forgotten or forgiven or trusted the Germans since their anti American hate filled hysteria over the second Iraq War.

Wonder what the Germans say about their own government? Not much better I suspect.

I doubt you could get 53% of Americans to agree that the US government doesn't respect its citizens' freedoms.

Yet its as obvious as the noses on their faces.

They were cranking out the anti-US propaganda quite a bit back then.

Gotta agree. The current political environment in the USA is tending toward totalitarianism.

“The U.S. receives largely positive reviews among many of its key NATO allies. About two-in-three Canadians have a favorable opinion, as do large majorities in Italy, Poland, France, the UK and Spain. The outlier is Germany,” the report stated.

Well, its CERTAINLY comforting to see that only Germany - the single most economically successful political entity remaining in Europe has such a negative opinion of us, while the rest of the socialist maggot states which can’t even protect their population from being raped and murdered by an army of foreign invaders loves our government so much. It must be our fearless leader they like.

Personal freedom.
Like the right to have your life destroyed for refusing to bake a cake.

They are talking about the government, not Joe and Jane Sixpack.

They are talking about some Citizens, they said they are on the fence.

if anyone knows what dictatorship is its Germany and now they are exactly correct.

You can be sent home from school for wearing an American flag t-shirt, you can go out of business for not baking a cake, You can lose your job if you are a military chaplain who says the word Jesus, all of your email texts postings and telephone calls are monitored, if you use Google Chrome the audio around your computer is analyzed, and if you don’t contribute to the correct political party it’s okay for the IRS to audit you.

The Germans are exactly correct.

I have colleagues in Canada, they feel the same way. When it comes to things like the NSA and monitoring phone calls Americans are very concerned about it - when it impacts US. When it impacts citizens of other nations we don’t care.

Agencies like the NSA have such a wide net over global communications they feel like the USA is always violating their privacy. I know my German colleagues have a running joke when something goes wrong, it’s not “murphy’s law” but “it’s the NSA!”.

I understand their point of view...and they’re right.

They were cranking out the anti-US propaganda quite a bit back then.

In 2002 the Germans had completed the absorption of the former Communist east and were ready for us to leave Europe...

...to them.
