Once politically sacrosanct, Confederate flag moves toward an end
Washington Post ^ | 6/23/15 | Karen Tumulty

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh told his listeners Tuesday that the effort to get rid of the flag is aimed at “destroying the South as a political force,” and he predicted, “The next flag that will come under assault, and it will not be long, is the American flag.”

Its defenders say the Confederate banner is a link to bygone times and an expression of opposition to federal encroachment on states’ rights. But in many Southern states, the flag did not gain currency until the 1950s and early 1960s, at a time of white resistance to desegregation and the civil rights movement. Advertisement

“If it was purely a flag representing the region, albeit one involved with a stupid war, I would be proud of it,” said Curtis Wilkie, a journalist and historian of the South who teaches at the University of Mississippi. “Yet it’s become something entirely different and therefore objectionable.”

Over the years, there have been a number of endeavors to do away with the Confederate flag, which has often projected an image of being stuck in another century.

The South Carolina Chamber of Commerce began advocating in the late 1990s for the flag’s removal from the capitol dome in Columbia, where it had flown since 1961. Some of the organization’s members resigned in protest. As a compromise, legislators decided in 2000 to remove the flag from the building and fly it on the statehouse grounds instead.

This whole effort is designed to split the south, which has become solidly Republican.

The Mexicans slaughtered everyone in the Alamo, should that flag go? The US flag flew over Ft Hood, Columbine and Newtown, should it go too? This mob mentality deliberately being used by the hard core left and sucking in spineless, idiot Republicans is their last best chance to destroy every Southern emblem they hate. Make no mistake about it, this is an anti Southern crusade. No such effort was made after any other large scale massacre in this country but the South has always been held to a different standard.

That is the thing about symbols, they can be interpreted differently by everyone who sees it. But his reasoning is just stupid. By that logic, the US flag would be higher on the objectionable list.

This whole silly hubbub with the Confederate battle flag can be viewed as a canary in a coalmine.
Liberals wished a smaller-scale "test" to see how to orchestrate a future attack on the very symbol of our country, the American flag.

The Marxist assault on America goes on unchecked by the wussy RINOs in congress and the sound asleep citizenry. IMHO the “Stars and Bars” will once again fly at the head of an avenging populace perhaps sooner than later.

So, from this article, I learn that the Chamber of Commies has been left-leaning for at least 20 years.

This effort to erase the history of the south is just another example of the differances between us and the blue northern and western states. We have very little in common any more and I for one do not see any reason to stay committed to this alliance any more.

Flags stand for something. A cause, a nation, organizations, ... let us not shut down our freedom of expression on some mistaken idea of hate, and instead be proud of of where we have come from and how we can be strong and proud.

WAKE UP AMERICA we are being taken over day by day bit by bit and it is happening through education, medias, and perhaps the New World Order, to conform to Communistic creeds, to our own loss.

STOP!

Drive-bys taking a victory lap over something they’ve salivated over since the 80’s.

Next up, the Gadsden Flag. To be followed by the Cross.

I was something on the news this morning, a big sign reading "Bring us together. Take the flag down." And I thought that whoever put that sign together must be totally clueless because removing the flag will not bring people together. It will only divide an already divided nation in yet another way.

“Every man should endeavor to understand the meaning of subjugation before it is too late… It means the history of this heroic struggle will be written by the enemy; that our youth will be trained by Northern schoolteachers; will learn from Northern school books their version of the war; will be impressed by the influences of history and education to regard our gallant dead as traitors, and our maimed veterans as fit objects for derision… It is said slavery is all we are fighting for, and if we give it up we give up all. Even if this were true, which we deny, slavery is not all our enemies are fighting for. It is merely the pretense to establish sectional superiority and a more centralized form of government, and to deprive us of our rights and liberties.”

Maj. General Patrick R. Cleburne, CSA, January 1864

Rush is totally on the mark re the American flag being the next flag to be targeted by the far left. It’s already happening on the campuses of American schools.
