On Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) said the United States is the “only advanced country” where public “mass violence” occurs, and more gun control is needed now to keep Charleston-like attacks from happening again. Reid’s announcement that public “mass violence” does not happen in other advanced countries echoed a similar claim by Obama in which he referenced Charleston by claiming “that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.”

In the 2011 Norway massacre, the killer, Anders Behring Breivik, directly shot 69 mostly teenagers dead and wounded 110 more at a youth camp. The bomb he exploded earlier the same day killed 8 and wounded 209 more.
