Sen. Sessions: Slow Fast-Track Now, Before It’s Too Late
Breitbart ^ | 6-21-2015 | Jeff Sessions

Posted on 06/21/2015 5:21:05 PM PDT by sheikdetailfeather

Fast-Track, or Trade Promotion Authority, will receive a final cloture vote in the Senate on Tuesday morning. This is the bill that passed the House. If cloture is invoked, the bill will pass the Senate and go to the President’s desk.

More than four weeks have passed since the Senate first voted on whether to grant the Executive six years of fast-track authority. In that time, an enormous amount has been discovered about how the President plans to use this authority – information that was either not known or understood when the vote was held. This includes the Administration’s pledge to use the agreement to impose “environmental governance.”

Just asking.

Was Ted Cruz a patriot when he said we had to pass TPA to see what was in TPP/Obamatrade? Gee, where have I heard that before?

I like and admire Senator Jeff but answer this:

Why did Senator Jeff vote YES on the SECRET Iran deal which was truly treaty material?

I did hear him tell Mark Levin he voted on a trade bill with South Korea I believe and was told it would do a lot of great things it never did. I do not know if he considers CAFTA a mistake or not. I do believe he is not corrupt.

Patriot is right.

There is no legitimate need to ram this through at this time. And what little we know about it ain’t good (I know, that blasted Internet again - misinformation and all).

Perhaps he can answer you himself on facebook better than I can although I can see no good reason to vote for that whatsoever.

Ted Cruz didn’t say that. Ryan said it and he was talking about the fact that without TPA, TPP will still be kept in secret. With TPA, we get to review the agreement before a vote.

Let's stop reaching back in time. The trade situation is even worse now and the US economy can not handle another hit with US workers being undermined. Let's worry about who's going to vote for the bill Tuesday, now that it's even more clear that it's a bad idea at this time.

That's ok. Some of us have an agenda to vote for conservatives this election. And we keep on donating cash to The Cruz campaign.

Senator Sessions voted against TPA in 2002 saying the same things then that he’s saying now. That agreement expired in 2007. None of the stuff he feared back then occurred, but he’s back with the Chicken Little The Sky is Falling routine again.

Good enough for me!

will receive a final cloture vote in the Senate on Tuesday morning

According to Wikipedia, cloture requires sixty votes:

In 1975, the Democratic Senate majority, having achieved a net gain of four seats in the 1974 Senate elections to a strength of 61 (with an additional Independent caucusing with them for a total of 62), reduced the necessary supermajority to three-fifths (60 out of 100).[12] However, as a compromise to those who were against the revision, the new rule also changed the requirement for determining the number of votes needed for a cloture motion's passage from those Senators "present and voting" to those Senators "duly chosen and sworn". Thus, 60 votes for cloture would be necessary regardless of whether every Senator voted. The only time a lesser number would become acceptable is when a Senate seat is vacant. For example, if there were two vacancies in the Senate, thereby making 98 Senators "duly chosen and sworn", it would only take 59 votes for a cloture motion to pass.[10]

The new version of the cloture rule, which has remained in place since 1975, makes it considerably easier for the Senate majority to invoke cloture.

The last Senate vote on fast-track was 62-37. So we need to flip three votes.
