Karen and her three teammates have gone up against the boys, and won. They took the top prize at the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, Scholastic Pistol Program state tournament in Tucson -- mixed gender competition

What is the point of this article? Why would there be any distinction between male and female in shooting a gun accurately?

Just another opportunity to bash men.

I was on the rifle team at the University of Akron and we experienced a lot of stereotypes. We dealt with it. The only time I was ever upset was when it was insinuated that we girls were like the softball players. Umm, no. The guys on the team definitly supported us on that one!

A female body provides a better firing platform than a male. The hips are wider, center of gravity closer to the ground, legs shorter = less wobble.

My observation is that the guys grab the biggest hand cannon they can lift for their first shooting experience. This caused them to develop a flinch reflex when pulling the trigger. The ladies tend to start with .22 and don't learn to flinch. Makes them generally better shots.

When I teach marksmanship I’ve found the girls tend to be better shooters.

And generally a lower center of gravity also makes for good marksmanship.

My experience is not vast, but every guy I have ever seen drop a hammer on an unexpected empty chamber has flinched. Every girl I have seen do this did not flinch.

Oh....

She wasn’t a finalist but, IIRC, a lot of other shooters got eliminated before she did.
