Sensing the window of opportunity is closing, John Kasich is on a last-minute dash across the country to convince party donors and power-brokers that theres room for one more candidate in the most crowded Republican presidential field in decades.
The Ohio governor, whos expected to formally announce his White House bid next month, is jetting to Americas political money capitals from Dallas to New York City to Palm Beach with the goal of securing the financial support hell need to wage a 2016 campaign.
Hes huddled with Ann Romney at a lavish Utah ski resort and pushed to win the backing of a powerful longtime friend, media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Hes also tried to convince Ohios deepest-pocketed donors to keep their powder dry and not commit until he gets into the race.
The case for his candidacy is grounded in his record as a popular swing state governor. But part of his sell to donors is that Jeb Bush has run an ineffective campaign, creating an opening for a candidate who happens to fit Kasichs own profile.
At times, Kasich, who waged a disappointing campaign for the GOP nomination in 2000 and lacks the national profile of many of his would-be 2016 rivals, has faced tough questions about whether hes getting in too late.

Well, they’ll have to do better than Kasich. He’s done a decent job as Governor of Ohio (could hardly do worse than Ted Strickland). But he is about as colorful as a bowl of Farina and a glass of milk.
The handwriting is on the wall - Establishment Republicans have gone the way of the Whigs.
He has stopped the wheels from spinning off, I'll grant you that. He's a partner in (so far) very effective plans to prevent Cleveland from falling prey to racist chaos.
But for small towns, he's a disaster. The towns are starving while Medicaid was expanded by very questionable moves to circumvent the state legislature and all sorts of construction projects get funded.
I could see the deep pockets looking at Kasich. The dems had a seriously flawed candidate against him last election, and Kasich ran a skillful campaign exploiting every one of those weaknesses. That kind of smart campaign could work real well against hillary.
I will not vote for any amnesty candidate.
The RNC must produce an amnesty candidate for The Cheap Labor Express. They have already paid for one.
Plan B is Rubio but the GOPe is keeping quiet about it. He needs to keep some conservative cred for the early primaries to knock out Cruz and Walker.
Rubio might knock Walker out rather early, but, NOT Ted Cruz. Just wait and see how Ted surprises people in the early State contests. Don’t be surprised if he give Graham a close race in SC.
Kasich is a RINO goof ball and will get crushed by Cruz in the debates
Establishment getting nervous
Si Senoir
This is my thought as well the Rube is the liberal Republican Party pukes fall back candidate. He will draw enough conservatives still despite him being an open borders supporter to possibly win. If the Rube can convince enough people he was tricked on the senate amnesty scheme he might make it through.
But seriously, you are a freshman Republican senator elected by the Tea Party and you believe anything that smarmy pric* Chuck Schumer tells you! You are so gullible McFly...
Some of us remember when Alan Keyes mopped the floor with all comers in the debates, he would up getting arrested, and hauled away in handcuffs.
It is not enough to be the best debater, it takes much more.
I believe Cruz is by far the most conservative and best qualified candidate we have but the GOPe plan does not include anyone named Cruz.
