Gunman is such a PC neutral word which can mean a mass murdering intent thug with a gun, a heroic person who takes them out or merely a law-abiding and prepared CCW permit holder.

It is almost as stupid as "inappropriate" which can ran the whole range from really, really inappropriate (such as kidde porn) to a mild statement which offends their PC hypersensitivities.
