Ted Cruz Is Right x2 (Obamacare, Jeff Sessions, TPP and TPA)
The National Review's The Corner ^ | June 12, 2015 | Ramesh Ponnuru

Posted on 06/12/2015 4:26:38 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

1. On Obamacare:

“I think the best legislative option is to allow states to opt out,” Cruz said in the Capitol. “I am cautiously optimistic that the Supreme Court will conclude in King vs. Burwell that the Obama IRS disregarded the plain language of the statute and acted lawlessly. And when that occurs, it will be a real opportunity for Congress to lead.”

Here is a little bit more on what an opt-out might look like.

2. On trade: “TPA is what the Senate voted on recently. I voted in favor of fast track because I support free trade. I think free trade benefits America. It creates jobs — opening markets to our farmers, to our ranchers, to our manufacturers, improves economic growth. In Texas alone, roughly 3 million jobs depend on international trade.

“And if you support free trade, the only way history has shown free trade agreements get negotiated is through fast track.

“Now there is a second issue which has caused a great deal of confusion and that is TPP…it is one specific trade deal that is being negotiated. It is separate from TPA. Congress has not voted on TPP, and there’s a great deal of concern about TPP.

“Now, I have not voted on TPP, and I haven’t decided if I will support it or not, because the negotiation isn’t complete, and I’m going to wait and review and see what the agreement is first before assessing if it would be beneficial or harmful.”

Much more here–including a response to Senator Jeff Sessions’s claims about TPA.

As some of you may have read here the other day, my wife is going to work for an organization affiliated with Jeb Bush, a likely presidential candidate. An old friend of mine, Senator Ted Cruz, seems likely to run as well. And another probable candidate, Bobby Jindal, a conservative Indian-American convert to Catholicism, is very nearly my demographic twin. So as you can tell, I have multiple sympathies. I reserve the right to criticize or praise any of these candidates, or their rivals, in the future, and expect to exercise that right frequently.

I want to read the TPA so I can make a recommendation to my Congressman on an up or down vote. Where is it hosted?

what does supporting free trade have to do with fast track? One can support free trade all they want and still require that Congress be involved and Obama NOT be allowed to ram his deal down our throats

If the trade bill is so damn great, why is under wraps? Why is it a secret? Why are members of Congress being threatened with charges of treason if they divulge any of the contents of this so-called bill?

I thought Obama promised the most transparent administration in history. Liar.

Love ya Ted, but you were wrong to support this so-called trade bill.

So basically, Obama is right about everything. Congress should just turn the reins of power over to him and go do their own thing.

Cruz may think that, as a conservative, I have no place else to go. He’s wrong about that, I don’t think he realizes just how disaffected and alienated I am from the whole process.

I’ve been say, Cruz or Cruz; no one else remotely interests me.

But whether he realizes it or not, he is on trial right now. Supporting secret laws doesn’t sit well with me. Supporting laws that let Obama run rings around the law and the constitution doesn’t sit well either. So he has got some explainin’ to do.

So it is meant to pass it first and then fill in all the blank spaces later?

If all this generates confusion on the citizens, it was intentional.

I don’t know how any American could support a “treaty” that is kept under lock and key especially after the disaster Obamacare. Never in a thousand years did I think I would approve of a single thing a rat does but turns out I was wrong.

Hadn’t heard about the treason part but to answer your question, say, hypothetically, there was an 80% probability the Ring of Fire was going to erupt within 3 years on a massive scale, injuring trade with Pacific nations for quite a while. They would need concrete plans to move production/HQs/resources etc rignt away instead of running around screaming during an economic Fukishima.

If data of that type were in it, I’d call that classified.

You can read the TPA here: TPA text: https://www.congress.gov/bill/114th-congress/house-bill/1314/text

TPA is not a bill yet - it is still being negotiated. When it is written, it will be posted publicly for 60 days before it will be voted on.
Hope this helps.

The TPP is what is secret because it is still being hammered out. When it is finalized, it will be publicly posted for 60 days before being voted on.

Since TPA passed, TPP can be passed with a simple majority, no amendments allowed, straight up or down vote, rather than requiring a two-thirds majority because TPP is a trade agreement.

Now, Cruz can have his cake and eat it, too. He can refuse to vote for TPP knowing full well it will pass anyway and pretend voting for TPA had nothing to do with the fact that TPP is passed.

And if California falls into the ocean We get all kinds of help from foreign countries too. I am sure that is in there. We are just not allowed to see it.
