Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska) now has two reasons not to forget the date June 9its his birthday and his anniversary.
Young wedded his fiancé, Anne Garland Walton during a private ceremony in the Capitol on Tuesday. The House chaplain, Rev. Patrick Conroy, officiated the ceremony.
As I celebrate my 82nd birthday, Anne has given me the best gift anyone could ask for her hand in marriage. She jokingly says I will never forget our anniversary, Young said in a statement.
Anne and I are truly fortunate to have found each other. We are excited to begin our lives together and to share in the many joys marriage brings.
Young tweeted out a picture to announce his nuptials that shows the new couple standing on a Capitol balcony overlooking the mall. The congressman is wearing a black three-piece-suit with a boutonniere pinned to his lapel, while his new wife is in a white spring dress holding a bouquet of flowers.
The couple, who has been engaged since August of 2014, both lost their previous spouses. Youngs wife, Lu, died in 2009Waltons husband George passed in 2001.
We have both known great love and experienced deep heartbreak, Young said.
In many ways neither of us ever thought we would find love again, but sometimes life surprises you.
nice picture of them at the website.
“What a joke. Sorry Don, you want to get married? Keep it to yourself, don’t expect anyone to come to your reception. Accept getting old gracefully and all that it entails. You are not an alpha male.”
Geez, what a curmudgeon. Ever hear of companionship? Someone to do things with and talk to? Compatability? Mutual interests? It appears you have none of these desires, or are in a bad marriage. What a rotten thing to say.
Wow, and I thought I was crabby today. “How do I hate thee, let me count the ways,”
Actually, I was somewhat surprised that this 82 y/o lawmaker is telling us about a traditional marriage for a change. You know, a marriage between one man and one woman, like it used to be everywhere.
Very well said!
IIRC, Young won a special election to fill the empty seat, and Boggs (who was majority leader before he shared Will Rogers' fate) was succeeded by his wife, who I believe retired "just" a decade ago or so...
And Young just continues to get re-elected every two years for more than 40 years! There are colleagues of his in the House who are sons of Members and who are older now than their fathers were when Young was first elected.
He's more establishment GOP than Ted Stevens once was, and more of an enemy to Sarah Palin than the D's up that way, though my memory doesn't serve me as it once did. I was just 16 when he won that seat...
Your post was uncalled for, rude and disgusting. You obviously know nothing of relationships or love. Your post makes you sound like a sexually frustrated homosexual.
I have no idea whether or not this guy is an “alpha male” nor do I care. However, I am certain that you’re not.
You remind me of some moron that would stand at the urinal and mumble to a stranger, “the waters cold, and deep too”.
The world is full of fools.....stand up and be counted.
Maybe he wants to pass on his government pension.
Your ship has sailed. Good buy. Your post is abuse, nothing more. How the hell do you know what I am?
” Good buy “ LOL, LOL
Actually that should read, “goodbye”. A “good buy” is something you might get at a garage sale.
As for “How the hell do you know what I am?” Sorry, but I am not allowed to divulge that kind of information.
Your previous post remains all that I said it was.
Yep, they look contented. More power to them.
How old is the new Mrs. Young?
Abuse????????
I see you like to throw mud but don’t like getting dirty.
But it is very common these days for an elderly man to leave his wife and remarry a much younger woman before the ink is dry on his divorce papers.
Don Young is a widower who onlybremarried six full years after his wife died of natural causes, and his bride is three years older than his wife would have been had she lived.
I am actually pleasantly surprised by how decorous and traditional this is.
I think he looks darn good for 82. They both look very, very happy in the wedding photo. Good for them.
