President Obama, who claimed when he first entered the White House to have mostly kicked his nicotine habit, might have been caught on camera holding a pack of cigarettes.
The commander in chief is seen clutching a white object in a snapshot with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi posted Sunday on Instagram by Renzi's spokesman.
Obama and Renzi were both in Germany attending the G-7 summit.
Several social media users questioned whether Obama was holding cigarettes in the pic, with one writing, Smoking?
The White House did not immediately respond to ITK's request for comment on the photo and the last time President Obama had had a cigarette.
Its not the first time Obamas claims of being mostly nicotine-free have been questioned.
In November, ITK broke the story that Obama invited Billy Joel to have a smoke at the White House with him.
According to a source who spoke with Joel, Obama said to the Piano Man singer during Joel's 2013 White House visit, Im going out on the North Portico to have a smoke. Do you want to come with me?
Obama said in 2009 that he constantly struggles with cigarettes.
Have I fallen off the wagon sometimes? Yes. Am I a daily smoker, a constant smoker? No, he said at the news conference.
I would say that I am 95 percent cured, Obama said, But there are times where There are times where I mess up.
Obama was heard on an open mic at a 2013 event saying it was Michelle Obama who scared him into quitting smoking.
I havent had a cigarette in six years," the president said. "Thats because Im scared of my wife.
UPDATE (2:32 p.m., June 10):
The White House said Wednesday that Obama is not holding a pack of cigarettes in the photo.
When asked if Obama has a pack of cigarettes in his hand in the photo, spokesman Josh Earnest answered, "He does not."
Busted?

Naw. He’ll say it’s the new “Kool cell phone.”
It’s harder to see the crack pipe.
There he goes again.
DANG!
because obamatard is used to “smoking” with reggie love...
I don’t know that it’s anyone’s business whether he smokes or not. I wouldn’t think anything wrong with a president that smoked a cigar or a pipe if it helped him, and I guess I wouldn’t care if it was a cigarette, either. Some people like the effects of nicotine and it’s a legal substance.
He’s not smoking, his pants are on fire,
Don’t know. I am sure it is hard to quit. I’m glad I never had to do it.
So what? Let the dinosaur media hold him to account for something more important—the economy, doubling the federal debt, screwing up Iraq, swapping an army traitor for worthless Gitmo Muslims, and that is just the start. The world of the screwball media is upside down, yet they continue to accuse everyone except themselves. Wake up America, we are on the edge of a precipice and already over yet no one cares. Now a pack of cigarettes is important? What a bunch of crap.
I don’t BLAME him for being scared of Michelle!!! ;)
It’s not the smoking, it’s the smoke screen by the MSM and Obama himself.
There are many things worse than smoking. I have known many smokers, some were family members. I don’t love it, but I can deal with it on a limited basis. Right now I think all of them have quit. But you never know if it will be forever.
No but how he reacts to being asked about it is. like if he’s lying about something this stupid and small, shows a narcissist and untrustworthiness. if he lies about tiny crap hes lying about big stuff.
I don’t care if he smokes. Why does he have to lie about everything?
I hope he smokes three packs of unfiltered Camels every day.
It’s all slip-sliding away from Obama. His “legacy” is nothing positive, instead it’s the Islamic State, America’s Health Care System in shambles, Trillions and Trillions of dollars of new debt left behind for someone else to deal with, and very possibly an economy headed south.
No wonder he’s resuming his habit for some relief.
