Bret Baier Grills McConnell Over TPA: ‘Why Not Make The Trade Bill Transparent?’ [VIDEO]
The Daily Caller ^ | June 9, 2015 | Al Weaver

EXCERPT

BAIER: That sounds like Nancy Pelosi. You’re going to find out after you pass it.

MCCONNELL: No, no. It hadn’t been finalized yet.

BAIER: But you passed it though…

MCCONNELL: What Trade Promotion Authority is is a process to deal with it. The trade agreement will be completely transparent. We’ll have a chance to vote whether to approve it or not.

BAIER: So all this criticism about we don’t know what’s in it yet, you discount that?

MCCONNELL: I don’t buy that because the agreement hasn’t been finalized. What we’ve been voting on is a procedure that allows it to be dealt with once it’s completed. We’ll know what’s in it. We’ll know everything about what’s in it and we’ll be able to decide whether to pass it or not.

Mr. Baier is one of only a few winners in the FOX news family. Honest, no nonsense reporter. He ventures into waters that most of the other ‘reporters’ on the FOX payroll fear to tread.

Dissembling obfuscator. Sure, it sounds above board. Chance to vote on it. He DOESN'T say that it will be ONLY a vote with limited discussion and no allowance for amendments or revisions. UP or DOWN. The TPA BINDS them in how they can consider a TPP.

This is a significant departure from Senate and House practices, IMO. Why is it that this deal HAS to be so restrictive regarding deliberations? What's so urgent about giving a tyrant the ability to tack on all sorts of freedom stealing rules/regulations to a needed economic pact?

Why do these RINOs have to appease him, Heck, why are they HELPING him? Money? Big money from big business? Some consultant told them we have to just let the rape go on for another 18 months and then we can recover?

I just don't understand these whimpering simps. I really don't.

The trade agreement will be completely transparent.

Despite the 5-year post-signing secrecy requirement, Mitch?

We’ll have a chance to vote whether to approve it or not.

With a 60 vote disapproval threshold, letting Obama skate with whatever he comes back with.

Mitch is such a liar.

He is correct in his assessment of what they have already passed. It is fast track authority which prevents congress from amending the agreement that is currently being debated. They will only get to pass or reject the final agreement.

The important thing is that we need to hold him to account once the final agreement has been approved.

If there are still any parts that are secret it shouldn’t get passed.
If it gives up sovereignty it shouldn’t get passed.
If it ties our hands on controlling immigration it shouldn’t get passed.
If it is a “living breathing document” that can be changed in the future by unelected bureaucrats it shouldn’t be passed.
If it tilts the playing field in favor of the business interests that helped negotiate the agreement it shouldn’t get passed.

Voting on a procedure. What about the due process whereby the voters (In other words - constituents - back home) can read it for themselves. But the rush is to get it through as fast as possible before the public finds out it is not really a trade agreement but it is sale of America to the lowest bidder. Sounds like OdumbassCare all over again and the endless legal challenges in the courts throughout the US. McConnell you are FIRED, get out of America you idiot!

Once it's been finalized, we will have 3 nanoseconds to disseminate it before Congress passes it regardless.

The requirement is 60 days before it can be passed.

Very frustrating that Baier is apparently so uninformed that he does not know the difference between the TPA and the TPP. And Baier is apparently unaware that the TPP is available for review by legislators but only on a top secret basis where they cannot take notes of its contents or otherwise reproduce what is in it.

This bill is unconstitutional. Article II, Section 2 states: “He shall have Power, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate, to make Treaties, provided two thirds of the Senators present concur;”

2/3 CONCUR; NOT 2/3 overrule. What the Senate has done is amend the Constitution WITHOUT the states approval. If this goes unchecked, there is no Constitution. It is one man rule.

as I understand it, the action in question is not a treaty. the treaty is yet to come and to be voted on.

given the subject, I doubt it will become a treaty on Obama’s watch anyway. These things drag out for years and years.

If I was one of the other nations, I would drag it out till the incompetent Obama administration is gone
