What’s up with Warden Andy Cuomo and the big escape? ("Do chrysanthemums grow on this island?")

I had the local news on this morning, and I hear some guy droning on and on about this latest prison escape in NY state. He’s going over all the details about how they did it and how the investigation is proceeding. I just assumed they were talking to some prison investigator or cop, but then the guy calls him “Governor” and I realize the drone is Andy Cuomo’s drone.

What on earth is going on with this bizarre case? Some dudes busted out of 150 year old prison and all of a sudden Andy Cuomo’s lead detective on the case? He’s appearing on all the news shows giving details of the investigation (”We’re going through interviewing all the civilians and contractors first,” Cuomo told NBC News), he’s playing bloodhound sniffing along their underground escape route gathering clues, he’s even interviewing other prisoners!

’They were heard, they had to be heard, I chatted with a couple of the inmates myself and said, 'You must be a very heavy sleeper,' Cuomo told ABC's 'Good Morning America' on Sunday.

He’s like the obsessed warden in Cool Hand Luke! He offered a $100,000 (our money, not his) reward for information leading to the capture of the men, saying that the 'first order of business is to get these killers back', according to ABC. He's pushing all governorly duties aside until these men are found. If only he had been this obsessively devoted to finding the $65 billion HUD “lost” when he was its director!

'It was a sophisticated plan,' Gov Cuomo said. 'It took a period of time, no doubt, to execute… It's very important that we locate these individuals,' he said. 'They are dangerous and we want to make sure they don't inflict any more pain and any more harm on New Yorkers.'

Perhaps unrelated, one of the escapees from the prison unit has a big unit. Retired Detective David Bentley, told the NY Post: 'When [Matt’s] cleaned up, he’s very handsome and, in all frankness, very well endowed. He gets girlfriends any place he goes."

Very handsome Matt, packing large.

Maybe Cuomo’s interest is related to the case where Big Unit met David Telstar, a Californian accused of embezzling more than $1million from his super-rich wife - an heiress to the fortune of movie mogul Harry Warner, one of the four Warner Brothers. While inside at a holding center, Telstar recruited Matt as a killer-for-hire - paying his $15,000 bail then offering him $100,000 to kill his wife, Desiree Telstar (porn star name). He was also told to kill Telstar's stepfather, president of the LAPD's board of commissioners Stanley Sheinbaum, and also her mother, Betty Warner Sheinbaum.

Or maybe Andy is looking forward to the 2020 Presidential election, where he may be fighting slightly gay Cory Booker for the nomination. Booker ran into a burning building or something and saved some cats. I may be confusing his story with the True Adventures of Brian Williams, but Booker did some hero thing. Maybe Sheriff Andy feels the need to bona his hero fides, and wants to be part of the recapture of these asshats.

I really don’t have any overarching theory on this, but I bet it gets more entertaining and we move towards sweeps week and the big recapture show.

Good catch.

I think like all girly-men liberals, 'ol Andy's poll numbers must be down and now he needs to show New Yorkers what a great, he-man leader he is.

It is bizarre, though.

Too bad we can’t do a Legends and Lies thing on Brian Williams!

He's been hopping from one news show to the next, updating the audience with latest clues and the "technology we're deploying in this investigation"!

It all seems very strange and coordinated towards some future big Andy moment.

Whenever I see a politician doing stuff like this, I think that he/she is trying to divert attention. Sure enough, he is on the edge of being involved in a huge scandal of payoffs and bribes involving the Republican and Dem leaders of the legislature.

Cuomo is just one more egotistical politician out for himself. He claims to be Catholic but his behavior in both his public life and his personal life is anything but.

a huge scandal of payoffs and bribes

Yeah, that was the sort of classic move that only Democrats can get away with in the media - with great fanfare, Andy announced the formation of an anti-corruption task force.

But the first thing they started investigating was a big case involving Andy Cuomo! So, with considerably less fanfare, the task force was quickly disbanded and all participants were scattered in the wind. Parts of that investigation crawled on and should lead to some revelations soon.

Thanks for posting this with the pictures. It confirmed my suspicions that they did indeed escape via the steam tunnels that run below the prison. I worked at Auburn Prison for 3 1/2 years, and it's basically the same set up. We had two inmates who had stolen drill bits from one of the shops, and were working on the vents at the back of their cells. Had the drill bits been reported missing by the civilian who had control over the inventory of those items, they never would have gotten as far as they did. It was only after an officer did a random search on their cells that their plans were discovered.

From the photo of them looking at the manhole they escaped from, it appears to be outside the prison. The prison's power-house, which I'm assuming is inside the prison, is where they gained access to the steam tunnels. There should have been locked gates which would have prevented them from accessing any of the manholes outside the prison. The manholes inside the prisons are always kept locked with a bar and padlock. Who knows what tools they picked up inside the power-house to complete their escape. But with the knowledge of the power-house building, and the tunnel system, these guys might have been working in the power-house, and used their time to learn as much as they could, and planned their escape.

Those tunnels are supposed to be regularly inspected to make sure nothing is amiss, and all gates are intact. It was usually the job of the Fire & Safety Officer, but I've been retired from the system since 2003, so I have no idea who does it now. And, who knows how many times they did practice runs from their cells before the final escape took place? They could have been getting a little farther each time they tried it, and may have even been working on some of the locked gates down in the tunnels. Guranteed, every correctional facility in NY State is now undergoing serious inspections of any tunnel systems that run underneath the grounds. Makes me glad I'm out of there.

Actually, while chairman of HUD under Clinton, Andy disappeared $59 billion, with a “b”. He was never able to account for the missing billions. He was barely even asked about it.

Thanks for the insight. The escape is fascinating, as these guys were pretty skilled at pulling it all together.

Cuomo's bizarre reaction to it is another story by itself.

Well, you know the old Democrap saying: Never let a crisis go to waste. He's out there getting his photo ops...making it look like he actually working to find the escapees. He's also crapping his pants, hoping they don't take anyone hostage, or murder anyone while they're on the lam.

Well, it looks like I'm not the only one who thinks this story stinks like old fish!

I don't know anything about the following source (they seem a bit out there, but I'm trending that way myself), but they recognize shenanigans when they see it.

The Hoax that is the Fake Upstate New York Prison Break

As I said in my original post, I have no idea what the game is here - but I do know when I'm seeing one played.
