Baltimore Mayor’s Staffers Jumping Ship

We’re all familiar with the proverb, rats flee a sinking ship. To see this in action on a human scale we need look no further than the offices of Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake.

In a story that’s gotten remarkably little news coverage, the Baltimore Sun Times reports that four of the Mayor’s highest ranking staff have quit since six Baltimore police officers were charged in the death of Freddie Gray.

Batts has said police are struggling to stop violence in West Baltimore, where officers have been routinely surrounded by dozens of people, video cameras and hostility while performing basic police work since the death of Freddie Gray, the 25-year-old who died after suffering a spinal cord injury while in police custody."

Well .... they said the Baltimore PD was doing too much policing. Now they seem to think the Baltimore PD is still doing too much policing. Or too little policing. It's hard to tell.

How much policing will make them happy, if it's not 100% or 50%?

I don't think Rawlings-Blake has a clue as to what she's started -- at least not as much of a clue as people working for her had.

Four of the five worked in public safety, so these resignations are probably a good thing since public safety seems to be lacking in Baltimore.
