Tom Coburn On 2016: Cruz And Walker Not Ready For Primetime, America Wont Elect Another Bush
BuzzFeed ^ | 06/05/2015 | Andrew Kaczynski

Tom Coburn, the former Republican senator from Oklahoma says that Rand Paul scares him to death, Ted Cruz and Scott Walker are not ready for primetime, Rick Perry is not capable enough, and America will not elect another Bush to be president. Of all the candidates, he said Marco Rubio is his favorite.

Former Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn spoke candidly about the current crop of Republicans running for president on Sirius XM radio Thursday, sharing some critical thoughts about Senators Rand Paul and Ted Cruz and Governors Scott Walker and Rick Perry, while heaping praise on Marco Rubio, Carly Fiorina, and Mike Huckabee.

Of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Coburn said “I don’t think that America will elect another Bush president.” Coburn said Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul “scares me to death” on foreign policy. He added Paul didn’t “speak truthfully” about the NSA and he “would not vote for him for president.”

Of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Coburn called him “of all that are out there right now probably my favorite.” Coburn said Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is “not ready for primetime in my opinion.” He said Walker didn’t win the recall election in 2012 but “Republicans around the country did it for him.”

Coburn said he had “a personal bone to pick with him on integrity that I witnessed” with retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson. The former senator said Carson was asked not to attack President Obama in his National Prayer Breakfast speech but said “his speech was nothing but an attack on the president.”

He added former New York Gov. George Pataki was “probably smart enough” to be president but didn’t have the conservative fiscal credentials.

It means Coburn is for a Permanent Democrat majority. Amnesty does that.

Legal immigration will make the Dems the permanent majority party. Amnesty just hastens it a bit. We have admitted 30 million legal permanent immigrants since 1990, 87% of whom are minorities. Immigrants and minorities vote more than two to one Dem. By 2019 half of the children 18 and under will be minorities as defined by the USG.

Each year we bring in 1.1 million legal permanent immigrants. Two thirds of them will be future Dem voters. We will lose America thru the ballot box as we import hundreds of thousands of future Dem voters annually. Demography is destiny.

While people worry about this or that individual issue, Ted Cruz is targeting the real source of all of those issues.

The politicians all knew that back in the 60s when the immigration laws were changed in favor of national insanity. Republicans are truly to blame for it all. Democrats pushing it were and are a given. Republicans knew what it entailed but went along with it so as not to appear bigoted to leftist Democrats. It is Republicans who have a mental disorder. Democrats know what they want and do everything to get it. Republicans just want to be loved by Democrats.

That tells me all I need to know. If Coburn got swept up in ‘the excitement’ and could not see the dangers, then we have little use for him today except as a political historian.
I think I also recall hearing him praising Nancy Pelosi, saying ‘she’s such a nice Lady’ Really? Don’t you get fooled easily.

Interesting...some good points but I think he is way off on Perry. Just my 2 cents worth.

He said Walker didn’t win the recall election in 2012 but “Republicans around the country did it for him.”

Coburn wasn't in Wisconsin in 2012. I was. The "Republicans around the country" didn't win it for him. The needle in the polling didn't budge throughout the campaign. Advertising's effect was nil, as voters already made up their minds pretty early on.

Walker himself (sticking to his guns), Wisconsin conservatives getting out the vote and Wisconsin Talk Radio did the job, not “Republicans around the country.”

Coburn was one of those who worked to dump Newt as house Speaker, despite what Coburn says about government waste it appears the only reason to dump Newt was so Republicans could participate in irresponsible spending. It also appears he supports the US Chamber in their quest to populate America with illegal aliens and to destroy middle class America. Coburn is apparently a Haley Barbour follower.

When it comes down to who I really trust will rein on or destroy federal agencies, Ted Cruz is the only choice.

Exactly.

Cruz or Lose.

And here I thought only Democrats bussed in out-of-state voters. Perhaps it's time for a national voter ID law eh, Mr. Coburn?

The Reps couldn't stop the 1965 Immigration Act. LBJ was in the WH and the Dems had overwhelming control of Congress. The 89th Congress (1965-67) had 68 Dems to 32 Reps in the Senate and a 295-140 margin in the House for the Dems.

The 1965 Immigration Act: Anatomy of a Disaster

I do blame Bush 41 for doubling the number of legal immigrants allowed in each year and Reagan for the amnesty. But I do blame the Dems for placing partisan political power over our national interests. The Dems are the architects of this strategy.

I also believe that Cruz is the only one who would immediately ask the attorney general to pick up the investigations of Fast and Furious, the IRS targeting, and Benghazi.

He’s made it clear that the cycle of abuses has to be broken.

The vote on the 1965 Immigration Act

The House of Representatives voted 320 to 70 in favor of the act, while the Senate passed the bill by a vote of 76 to 18. In the Senate, 52 Democrats voted yes, 14 no, and 1 abstained. Of the Republicans, 24 voted yes, 3 voted no, and 1 abstained. In the House, 202 Democrats voted yes, 60 voted no and 12 abstained, 117 Republicans voted yes, 10 voted no and 11 abstained. One unknown representative voted yes. In total, 74% of Democrats and 85% of Republicans voted for passage of this bill. Most of the no votes were from the American South, which was then still strongly Democratic. During debate on the Senate floor, Senator Kennedy, speaking of the effects of the act, said, "our cities will not be flooded with a million immigrants annually. ... Secondly, the ethnic mix of this country will not be upset"

Tom Coburn must either be suffering from scitzoildfrenia split personally, or got the hots for Marco Rubio.
