The IRSs director of privacy, governmental liaison and disclosure division testified Wednesday that the tax agency set up a special team with hundreds of lawyers to handle the probe into whether Tea Party groups were targeted, but repeatedly said she had no idea how it operated.
Mary Howard, who also works as the head Freedom of Information Act officer in the IRS, told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform that once the special project team was created and operational, she never saw requests for information.
Asked who was on the team, she said: My first hand knowledge of that is none. But she did say the Chief Council of the IRS one of only two political appointees in the IRS; the other is the commissioner was on the special project team, as were hundreds of attorneys.
She said her office did not interact with the White House, but asked whether the special project team did, said: I have no personal knowledge of how that team acted except that I know they amassed hundreds of attorneys to go through the documents and redact them.
Republican Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz also asked about the information requests after news broke that the IRS was targeting conservative groups, holding up their requests for tax-exempt status.
Those requests went to the commissioner, and it went to the general counsel, he said. Theres only two political appointees in all of the IRS, the commissioner and the general counsel. Those are the only two out of 90,000.
I think that Lois Lerner was the tip of the iceberg, Howard said.
Really? Chaffetz said. So do we.

The Rats criminality always goes unpunished because those advocating punishment are being just being ‘political.’
One too many ‘being.’
How ‘bout that.
Hundreds of attorneys. Who know the truth.
Seen or heard any of them on Capitol Hill?
Nope. And you won’t.
It’s a secret, kiddies.
Just remember folks - - - This is the Federal IRS
Let’s not forget that this stuff rolls down hill to those who have to pay STATE taxes as well.
They get me every year since ‘09.
BTW - I have a lawyer\account doing my taxes and I have to justify every transaction. Which I prove over and over.
They purely do it for the hustle factor.
Heads must roll.... literally
There must be death as a consequence
Wishy washy namby pamby behavior as usual will not do.
This new Congress could have acquired some ‘gravitas’ by not pussy-footing around with such a serious issue so fundamental to the American culture.
She should have been cited for contempt of Congress, jailed, and stripped of her pension (of which I’m sure is substantial).
But they chose the road all too frequently traveled these days.
Heads must roll.... literally
NO HEADS WILL ROLL!
We have a spineless GOPe!
Well, that “tip” ought to be wearing an orange jumpsuit.
Tell us something we don’t know.
The problem has always been that the GOP leadership is on board with the suppression of conservatives. I believe this fully explains why no one involved in this cluster has been punished even a little bit. Ms. Lerner was allowed to retire with full pension.
Yet another reason that the Democrats “must” win the next election. Unbelievable levels of corruption in the IRS and State Department along with willful illegally imposed regulations from the EPA in particular, along with Obama’s personnel illegal Immigration actions are just the tip of the iceberg.
Y’know, we are constantly told the NSA only collected and stored metadata, they did not read e-mails.
Somehow, that huge haystack of metadata contains zero records with Slow Lerners e-mail address! Otherwise, we could get her e-mails from all of the other counter parties
Remarkable!
When do people start going to jail?
Nothing to see here folks, move along now. How about that black kid that was killed by cops in Baltimore... /s
Is that pig Lerner still alive?
There’s nothing wrong with going off the books when you can, it’s just important to make sure it isn’t traceable first.
And Congress just lets it ride.
