Box CEO Aaron Levie has thrown his support behind presidential candidate Hillary Clinton as the 2016 race kicks into gear.
Levie, the 30-year-old founder of the recently-public company, has agreed to host a fundraiser for the Democratic frontrunner.
Levie, who was busy building his “cloud” data storage business back in 2008 the last time Clinton ran, told Reuters that this year’s election is a big one for the tech sector. The stakes are high given that issues such as improving the patent system, securing visas, and protecting privacy rights directly affect his business and others in and around Silicon Valley.
At the same time, candidates know they need the cachet that tech elites can bring — and their dollars. Clinton’s campaign has been courting technology leaders such as Levie who would potentially help support her run for the top office.
“Young, innovative entrepreneurs are key to growing and strengthening our economy,” a Clinton spokesperson told Reuters.

I really think the support of Hillary from the business people comes down to the abject fear that if they showed any support for a Republican they would be hounded out of town like the CEO of Mozilla, Brendan Eich.
So these business leaders might naturally support Republican economic programs, and may pragmatically support ostensibly Democrat social issues (in order to compete for labor talent). But the average Millennial employee cannot separate the two. A Republican politician might support tax, trade and immigration policies beneficial to the company, but the Millennial employee only knows the Republican as an evil individual who hates homosexuals.
What is a CEO to do? He has to find a Democrat who will support his business to some extent. Not as much as the average Republican, not necessarily with broad support of tax, immigration, and trade policies, but enough to benefit his business some, usually with a specific carve-out.
Pay to play is right, and the Democrats control the protection racket in California.
