The University of Kansas Hospital is treating a patient who has a fever after traveling from Sierra Leone.

The hospital says the patient has a "very low risk for Ebola" and is taking appropriate precautions.

Dr. Lee Norman held a media briefing at 6:45 p.m. Friday. He said that a young man from the metro area was visiting family in the west African nation and returned home with flu-like symptoms.

In a statement, the hospital reported that the patient has been placed in strict isolation, and all CDC-recommended precautions are being taken.

Norman said that people should feel safe coming to the hospital. He would not disclose other personal information about the patient.

Norman said the man stayed at a hotel in Sierra Leone with modern amenities. He was not there for medical work.

Bring Out Your Dead

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.

The purpose of the “Bring Out Your Dead” ping list (formerly the “Ebola” ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.

So far the false positive rate is 100%.

At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the “Bring Out Your Dead” threads will miss the beginning entirely.

*sigh* Such is life, and death...

null and void :" Africa must have a zillion diseases with flu-like symptoms."

According to WHO , 90 percent of Ebola cases have a fever; that means that another 10% don't exhibit fever symptoms.
Good to see that CDC is taking precautions anyway.

We should be shutting down immigration and visitor visas from those nations, especially now that we know survivors can carry it in semen and their eyes for six months afterward.
