Please remember at that time the races were mostly segregated and integration was a new concept. They shot their kind, we shot our kind on a regular basis. If I had been seen dating a black lady I would have been shot by both kinds or dragged through Lover’s Lane on the end of a chain fastened to a white pickup truck by my own kind. Now that was back when racism was a real problem, not an imagined one. And people were afraid to play the race card because it was real and could lead to repercussions.
