For the most part, yes. There were still a few slugfests in the Pacific. The Hood did not fare so well against the Bismarck, either, and pocket battleships were relevant as well. The second World War was the end of the era, though as the Carriers came into their own. Had the Bismarck and Tirpitz gained the North Atlantic, their ability to wipe out convoys delivering materiel to the European Theater (and the Eastern Front via Murmansk) would have been a game changer. Air power ended that plan.
I happen to agree with Gorchakov and Rickover. Any carrier not killed outright will be on the run and not able to conduct operations.
The Russians chose decades ago to go for the inexpensive carrier kill with missiles. They are very good at it and sell it to their buddies.
The mucky-mucks in the pentagon want to do the usual: fight the last war, that is what they know. Of course, they have lucrative VP slots waiting for them when they retire.
Do not scoff. I toured building 1 at Hughes Aircraft in the late 60's. The shear number of VP's was staggering, and the resume of all were ex-admiral-general.
I am not a military-industrial conspiracy nut, but worried about the incestuous influence continuing things on a path that will get too many young guys killed.
Freedom is never obsolete. America has become obscured as has the concept of freedom, though.
Name one ship and when it is to complete OPEVAL.
Tell me, how hot does a ballistic missile get reentering, and just how does a laser go about killing a target? Please think it through.
Zumwalt DD1000
Currently it has a 155 howitzer until the new cannons come on line
True WWIII would be different.. BUT getting from point A to B will never change.. transportation is critical..
MADD is another thing entirely..
Terrorists should be captured wired.. and released.. to find the “game trails”.. extremely doable..
But they haven't really been tested since the 1940s.
Absolutely, and the interdiction of logistical trains is as important as it was in Sun Tsu's day.
I think you meant MAD, with one 'D'.
As for the terrorists, I agree.
Freedom is never obsolete. America has become obscured as has the concept of freedom, though.
Wrong the only place on this planet where freedom ever ExistED... was the USA...
Literally ALL OTHER givernments grant privileges.. not rights..
No time or place in history has anyplace had “rights”.. except the USA..
Not in Europe or Canada.. or anywhere.......... ELSE...
We used to have rights.. but no more..
Except for a Civil War we will not see rights again..
I would like to be wrong.. but alas; probably ain’t..
It is up to us and our posterity to recover the ability to exercise them unopposed by our servants.
Whether that will take armed conflict or can be done peacefully, I do not know, although the forcible insistence of those in Government in controlling the most miniscule aspects of our lives and the fundamental adaptation of the gross public to the most petty tyranny leads me to believe that the former will be required and the latter will fail.
I have been waiting, watching, and trying to help nudge the pendulum back the other way, as have many here, but the strident and seductive calls of those who would sacrifice our liberty for convenience (or more self-serving goals) is difficult to counteract, especially as those in opposition to personal liberty control the information by which the masses measure their freedom.
Orbital kinetic weapons platforms (Rods from God) would make pretty much everything else obsolete. Except of course infantry.
The problem is federal schools have brain washed.. or better emptied a couple generations heads.. they don't even know "WHATS GONE".. You can't "miss it" IF you do not know it existed.. They are like Pavlof's Dogs.. used as a dog team for the socialists.. Hooked up and ready to run...
Precisely. Add in that the idea of 'heroes' has been so distorted by the Communists' crap, and not only do those of today have little idea where they come form, they have no idea where they are going or whom to emulate.
A friend and I were discussing this same phenomenon, we had Roy Rogers, characters played by John Wayne and others, real heroes like astronauts and war aces, and for many of us, relatives who were everyday heroes in volunteer fire departments or police forces or in the armed fordes (past or present).
What do kids now have? Rappers? Athletes?
They are told from day one by media and schools they will never amount to anything (and are given excuses to make that acceptable)--and many of them come to believe it if they aren't taught otherwise.
We need to take America back one kid at a time.
Well MADD is another thing entirely..
We need to take America back one kid at a time.
I like platitudes too.. they make me feel better.. lol..
What can you do?.. Somethin’.. So I made this..
And share it around.. You might like it..

Strongly disagree, the Battleship did not become entirely obsolete until the early 1960s with the operational deployment of the carrier launched all weather strike fighter. Carrier launched planes with a useful anti-ship payload did not enter service until the mid 1930s, prior to that they were a support arm for the big guns acting as scouts, spotters and protection from the enemy doing the same. As late as the battle of Surigao Straight there were battles between fleets where the air arm played very little role.
I didn’t say they were obsolete, just that the battleship era was over. It was the carrier era.
So this article is exactly what I'd write if I were a Chinese or KGB influence troll trying to poison American readers? Oh, boy. And your post is how I'd follow up, if I were a little "Vlad the Poisoner" troll working the American boards? Oh, boy.

My regards to your boss at the PLAN trollhouse. Try harder.
Thanks, I downloaded it but don’t have the bandwidth to watch it. I will watch it later on a different computer.
