Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Wear Uniforms

That's the real message, isn't it? Whether it's the young man or woman who chooses to join one of our military branches or anyone who decides to protect us from harm locally as police or sheriffs or deputies, it's becoming increasingly clear that wearing a uniform makes you a target in today's America.

This isn't about the relatively few police officers who knowingly do wrong. Nor is it about past military incursions. The issue at hand is a growing sentiment among an increasing number of Americans that anyone in a uniform is not to be trusted or given a break or to receive the thanks that they deserve.

Consider the Marine woman who was convicted recently in a court-martial for displaying some Bible verses at her desk. Admittedly, it was a desk she shared with others, but the evidence that they too had their own objects and trinkets at the desk was ruled inadmissible at trial.

She's out. She has a black eye on her record, and as of last reports, she has no job. Thank you, ma'am, for your service. A grateful nation casts you aside because, after all, you're not some kid who chose to steal from a store, run down the middle of a street and ignite a national controversy. You're just a woman who wanted to serve her country and express her personal inspirational faith in a small and unobtrusive way.

Of course, her plight is much worse than that of another service member who was dressed in uniform and dared in recent days to enter the posh bar at New York's upscale hotel The Standard. She was from the Navy, and she was told by the bouncer at the establishment that she could not enter because, "Hey, man, there's a dress code."

Oh, I'm sure there is. I can only imagine the "dress code" one might see there on a Friday or Saturday night. Of course, the "top brass" at the hotel reversed engines in a hurry once stories of this insult reached the news.

And then there are those times when following a legitimate dress code leads to much more -- like the cold-blooded murder of a New Orleans police officer.

Officer James Bennett Jr., who was working the area controlled by the Housing Authority of New Orleans, was shot to death this past week while he was sitting in his patrol car. No chance for him to put his "hands up," as they say. Instead, he caught a cold-blooded coward's bullet that took his life.

So let's just say what is really going on here. We have a new culture that has made it uncool to be in the military or to display patriotism, much less to suggest that there is something exceptional about America.

And it really isn't in fad to be a Christian (of any denomination) because we're standing by and watching Christians get slaughtered by terrorists with virtually no show of outrage by our leaders.

Who wants to be in the military knowing that our current leadership has an understated but oh-so-clear belief that removing American troops from unstable areas of the world is far better than having them keep control of areas we finally liberated, such as in Iraq? No, no military uniforms needed.

And who wants to be a police officer when that uniform can mean sudden death at any moment, and reaction to any situation could lead to criminal charges against you? No, no uniforms needed for that thankless job anymore.

We all know there are problems in our criminal justice system, and we also get the fact that most Americans grew war-weary after the George W. Bush years. But it hasn't been since the late 1960s that we've seen outright disdain, or at least lack of proper respect, for the men and women who wear any type of uniform to keep us safe.

But rest easy. At least the government respects the Taliban. Five of their top leaders will have their travel rights restored next week. And they won't need a uniform.

This article only scratches the surface of the idiocy that goes with military service these days. For the life of me, I couldn’t imagine why any principled adult would willingly serve in the U.S. military today.

So when "Good" Men and Women don't want to wear the Uniform,
We are left with those who should not wear a Uniform.

The Anti-Uniform bias is just an incarnation of the Hippies now in power. Once they chanted “Pigs” to such people—but wait til the next big war—a war we could lose—then they will be kissing anyone in uniform. Will there be another big war? History tells us so. Its just a question of time and it will start with a Pearl Harbor kind of attack. Americans always go too far one way or the other—this time its liberal Progressive “The UN will save us! No more wars! We will live in a Star-Trek peaceful world where all respect one another and race isn’t an issue—Fantasyland Crapola. The real ugly world will bitch slap us —as she always does.

That would be because we desperately need to keep it staffed with people who will uphold the constitution. It calls for a sense of duty and preparation for sacrifice.

Now as much as any time in our history.

All enemies foreign and domestic.

To learn useful skills, to gather intel, and to be in position to impede if the government ever moves against us. Just be strong in your faith, and consider it time spent ,,,,learning. Quietly.

A form of Taqiya if it helps one feel better. But I don’t agree with the philosophy of giving over the military to the lunatics.

Also, choose where you go. The right MOS and formations are usually very conservative. You’ll always encounter the revolutionary socialist Obamabot, but generally you can get through it.

I am greatly offend by what some think or feel about our military. I am damn proud that I, like millions of others, have worn the uniform of this nations military and if it were not for my age (77) would do it again for the same reasons I did back when I joined.

If you don’t like our military, there are ships and planes leaving frequently, get on one ASAP.

Knowing the history of tyranny, you know that they like to gain control of the military, the police, and the secret intelligence agencies. Americans who truly treasure freedom would be insane to quit applying for those positions. Why give all the law enforcement and weaponry and secrets to the enemy. Mothers should tell their children to sign up for the military and for the police and for the FBI and the CIA. We want honest people in those organizations.

"The Anti-Uniform bias is just an incarnation of the Hippies now in power."

Your post reminded me of a Frank Zappa concert I attended back in the late 60's, where Zappa told his hippy audience "Everybody here's wearing a uniform, and don't kid yourself."

For much of this nation's history, the most effective fighting forces were those that didn't answer to the Federal government. I'd include the Green Mountain Boys, Daniel Morgan's Virginia Riflemen, and the Texas Rangers among them.

I don't see how it does anyone any good to have "people who will uphold the constitution" serving in an organization that has become nothing more than a tool of big-government globalists who have no interest in the U.S. Constitution.

Like it or not, Americans learned teamwork in World War II.
Now, even in the military, everything is about the individual and getting ahead at any cost.
I don’t think this will change until the mushroom clouds go up over New York City and Los Angeles.
It’s a hard way to learn, but I guess that’s how it will be.
Until then......
Lie, cheat, steal, disobey the laws you don’t like, screw your neighbor because you are truly the only person on earth.

Don't you think that most people in the military today, ARE principled adults?

I guess, at this point, one could include the Boy Scouts as well.

Oh... I think that we can look at almost 250 years of the American military and find centuries of an effective fighting force, don't you?

There are no hippies in charge, hippies were those going Galt and dropping out, not the political activists getting law degrees and running for office and getting rich and seeking power.

It’s funny how some freepers think that our Americans serving in the military suddenly turned into homosexual leftists as a group.

It was only 2 or 3 years ago when freepers were supportive of those serving.

Tommy
-Rudyard Kipling

I went into a public-’ouse to get a pint o’ beer,
The publican ‘e up an’ sez, “We serve no red-coats here.”
The girls be’ind the bar they laughed an’ giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an’ to myself sez I:
O it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, go away”;
But it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it’s “Thank you, Mister Atkins”, when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but ‘adn’t none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-’alls,
But when it comes to fightin’, Lord! they’ll shove me in the stalls!
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, wait outside”;
But it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide,
The troopship’s on the tide, my boys, the troopship’s on the tide,
O it’s “Special train for Atkins” when the trooper’s on the tide.

Yes, makin’ mock o’ uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an’ they’re starvation cheap;
An’ hustlin’ drunken soldiers when they’re goin’ large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin’ in full kit.
Then it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, ‘ow’s yer soul?”
But it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it’s “Thin red line of ‘eroes” when the drums begin to roll.

We aren’t no thin red ‘eroes, nor we aren’t no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An’ if sometimes our conduck isn’t all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don’t grow into plaster saints;
While it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Tommy, fall be’ind”,
But it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind,
There’s trouble in the wind, my boys, there’s trouble in the wind,
O it’s “Please to walk in front, sir”, when there’s trouble in the wind.

You talk o’ better food for us, an’ schools, an’ fires, an’ all:
We’ll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don’t mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow’s Uniform is not the soldier-man’s disgrace.
For it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ “Chuck him out, the brute!”
But it’s “Saviour of ‘is country” when the guns begin to shoot;
An’ it’s Tommy this, an’ Tommy that, an’ anything you please;
An’ Tommy ain’t a bloomin’ fool — you bet that Tommy sees!
