Numbers USA has issued immigration report cards for the major presidential candidates.
Immigration policy should serve the interests of citizens. First, foremost, and always. Precious few politicians believe that, and fewer still would say it out loud.
Ted Cruz; Rick Perry - C!
Ben Carson; Chris Christie; John Kasich - C-!
Jeb Bush; Carly Fiorina; Mike Huckabee; Marco Rubio - D+!
I'd move him to at least the D- level but then that's me listening to him and his pappy!
Scott Walker - B-
He signed a Wisconsin petition in favor of the Bush-McCain Amnesty in 2006.
As a state legislator, Walker also voted for a budget that gave in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.
Also, before his sudden and unexpected support for reduced immigration and reduced work visas, Walker was very, very quiet on the issue of immigration.
Is Walker's public conversion truthful, or is he just trolling for Conservative votes in the Republican Primaries?
I don't know, and, frankly, I don't trust ANYONE in the GOP leadership on the immigration issue.
I agree—he was outspokenly pro-amnesty/citizenship and future open borders just a year ago.
I don’t particularly trust fuzzy, campaign-time promises. He’s also soundly in the Koch brothers/Reince Priebus GOPe (read: pro-amnesty) camp.
Too bad Santorum is such a goof otherwise. The GOPe has effectively kept any viable, pro-immigration law-enforcement candidates out of the race.
Before last night, I assumed he had a well disguised pro-Amnesty, massive legal immigration position like every other GOP candidate.
I would vote for Santorum, in the primary and the general, but I think he has very little chance of winning either election.
