Model Janice Dickinson sued Bill Cosby for defamation on Wednesday over denials made by the comedians representatives after she accused him last year of raping her in 1982.
Dickinsons lawsuit seeks unspecified damages on defamation, false light and intentional infliction of emotional distress claims. The suit states Dickinson has been re-victimized and her reputation has suffered because of pointed denials by Cosbys attorney that the comedian drugged and raped her in a Lake Tahoe, California, hotel room more than 30 years ago. The allegations were first made in an interview with Entertainment Tonight after numerous other women accused Cosby of drugging them and inappropriate sexual conduct dating back several decades.
The lawsuit states Dickinson, 60, sought a retraction of the denials from Cosby, but the request was denied.
An email sent to Cosbys attorney Martin Singer was not immediately returned. Singer called Dickinsons rape allegations false and outlandish in a letter to The Associated Press last year.

I’m not clear how this case can be pursued, given that she accused him and he denied it - to then claim that the denial (absent specific attacks against her) is defamatory is extra-judicial jeopardy against a criminal charge.
I’m not addressing whether there was a rape or not, just that denying having committed a crime doesn’t seem a valid basis for defamation.
Its the rat trap.
She calls him out for the rape. He denies it because he says she is a liar. She sues. He has to prove she is a liar in order to avoid defaming her.
Simple. He chose to call her a liar, he takes his chances. If her statement wasn’t true, he could have sued her. He didn’t.
He could have kept silent. He didn’t.
He is screwed now.
When you call someone a liar when you’re the liar, that’s defaming. About 30 other women have alleged in the last year that Cosby assaulted them over the last 40 years.
then every court case is a defamation case because one would be accusing the other of something and then another person denying it
not every court case involves publicly defaming and trying to damage someone in public, specially if not doing so in a truthful manner.
