A total of seven Minnesota men have been indicted after prosecutors say they tried to fly to Syria to join the Islamic State.
An indictment filed back in February charging 21-year-old Hamza Naj Ahmed of Savage has added 19-year-old Zacharia Yusuf Abdurahman of Columbia Heights, 19-year-old Adnan Farah of Minneapolis, 19-year-old Hanad Mustafe Musse of Minneapolis, 20-year-old Guled Ali Omar of Minneapolis, 21-year-old Abdirahman Yasin Daud of Minneapolis, and 21-year-old Mohamed Abdihamid Farah of Minneapolis.
They have all been charged with conspiracy to provide material support to a designated foreign terrorist organization.
Additionally, Omar, Mohamed Abdihamid Farah, Abdurahman, Musse and Daud have also been charged with attempting to provide material support to a terrorist organization.
Mohamed Abdihamid Farah is also charged with making a false statement during the investigation; prosecutors say he lied to FBI agents about his bus trip to JFK Airport back in November.
Ahmed and Musse are also charged with financial aid fraud. Prosecutors say they withdrew more than $1,000 in federal financial aid funds to buy plane tickets to Europe.
The FBI has been investigating potential terrorist recruits for at least the past 10 months. At least nine Minnesotans have now been charged with trying to support the Islamic State, all of which are acquaintances. The other two suspects are Abdullahi Yusuf and Abdi Nur, who were both charged back in November 2014.

I’m scratching my head...funny.....Ahmed, Abdul, Omar, Farah...I’m not familiar with Minnesota names like that. Minnesota is just across the river from me. I’m used to Minnesota names like Gunderson, Lundegaard, Schmidt, Olsen....must be Norwegians from a part of Norway I’m not familiar with. (snicker)
