Republicans are still firing away at Hillary Clinton's use of a private email account as secretary of state, but their latest shot seems to have missed the mark.
On Monday, the New York Times published several emails Clinton sent to an advisor in 2011 and 2012, while she was still secretary of state. Republicans noticed that Clinton's email address in the messages (hrod17@clintonemail.com) was not the same email she told congressional investigators she used during her time at the State Department (hdr22@clintonemail.com).
In a press release sent Monday afternoon, the Republican National Committee cried scandal.
"This is the latest example of how Clinton has attempted to mislead the public about her use of secret email for public business and raises further questions about where else she is attempting to hide the truth on this and other matters," the release exclaimed.
But Clinton's presidential campaign had a quick explanation - After Gawker published Clinton's old address when she left the state department, she changed her email address to hrod17@clintonemail.com. Any messages printed after that time, even if they were several years old, reflected the new address.
It wasn't a new explanation. They'd made it several times before. Here's what Clinton's personal office said in a Q&A document after Clinton's use of a private email account first became an issue in March:

Rule # 1 for DNC Spokesmen posing as journalists. If Hillary is using illegal email that is unsecure and puts the country at risk, spin the story as GOP attacks, not the actual issue of the illegality and national security risk of what she did. And then if you can find a way to make it look like the GOP attack is sloppy or harsh — that they “fumbled” — all the better.
GOP didn’t “fumble” this opportunity, they never tried to take possession of the damn issue!
The GOP-e is AFRAID to attack Hillary, just like they are afraid to attack Obama! They simply want to go-along to get-along!
We have a uni-party with the two sides (Dems & GOP-e) arguing over the difference at what speed we should reach the crash site!
Bullshirt. The original email addresses and other message tracking info is in the message routing headers, and those don’t change just because the account email changes.
This is just blatant lying.
So....were the emails, under either address, scanned? By whom, in what context, and what ultimate disposition?
CBS - Clinton Boys Sucking.
But the emails revealed that she used this second address while SecState. Jake, get your facts straight.
There are plenty of things to dislike Hillary about, but my “give a damn meter” just doesn’t register much on this email thing.
The usual democrat tactic: Hillary may have done some wrong things, but the fact that the Republicans are trying to exploit her wrongdoing for political advantage is so much more evil that it actually cleanses Hillary.
On the specific addresses, no, I don’t see this as that big a deal either. But on the issue of not conducting official business over official secure government servers, yes, I have a HUGE issue with that.
There is only one reason a public official wants to hide their business. Corruption. Add to it that it’s the worst way to hide it from foreign powers who don’t like us; all of the major international players hacked into that server a long time ago and have more complete copies of what was on it than Hillary did.
Yeah, for me it’s a HUGE deal and alone disqualifies her to be president.
...This is just blatant lying....
This I would assume is the truth. Old emails are not transformed just because you change your address.
All old emails are just transferred to the new address without alteration
The "email thing" is the mechanism by which Hillary was able to hide whatever activities you might care about.
If we don't put a stop to such overt attempts to conceal wrongdoing, it will become the norm for our government masters.
What Hillary was doing with emails was not a "mistake". it was a clear indication of her intention to avoid accountability. It will only work if people let it work.
The federal government attempted to charge a fisherman for destroying documents when he threw several undersized fish into the sea. Is that same federal government going to prosecute Hillary for destroying thousands of electronic documents? Do you have any doubt that the fisherman, if the courts hadn't stopped it, would have been convicted and imprisoned?
Those destroyed documents belonged to "us", not her, and she had no right to destroy them.
The problem likely is that they stripped out the real routing header lines, and are only “printing” a few lines of manufactured addressing, like the “To” and “From” lines, which are just strings and easily changed or spoofed (spammers do that all the time).
This entire email server situation is untraceable at this point, unfortunately. It is way too late to ever know the real story. As a professional System Admin, I have to look at the pompous crap the politicians say about their computer stories, and just laugh. It is all so transparently manufactured diversion or lies, and the public eats it up.
Drives me crazy, is what it does.
