Senator Rubio Applauds Invitation to Include Mexico in Trans-Pacific Partnership
Senator Marco Rubio ^ | Jun 18 2012

Posted on 05/13/2015 3:36:21 AM PDT by ObamahatesPACoal

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs, issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement of the invitation for Mexico to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations:

“Especially over the past decade, many Latin American nations have emerged as examples of the prosperity, security and opportunities that take root when free enterprise is embraced. By strengthening trade relationships with our partners in the Americas, we have helped strengthen democracies and created new consumers for U.S. products and services.

“Mexico’s inclusion in Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations is a welcome step that will ultimately help strengthen the friendship and economic ties that bind our nations. Mexico’s participation in TPP will further promote the priorities of the Americas and more strongly grow the economies of the United States and our Pacific allies.

Mexico already has a lot of trade with China.

Including the AK-47s that have been converted to full automatic and are the weapon of choice for the drug cartels.

And you thought all the sidearms in Mexico were smuggled in from the US?

Rubio couldn’t get my vote if he was the only one on the ballot.

Will they then keep their own citizens from crashing our border?

Probably not. If anything it will expand to include entire fleets of container ships filled to the max with containers full of illegals.....look for increased harbor traffic in California, TX, LA, MS, FL and up and down the east coast. Also look for increased DHS presence to aid and assist their quick ubiquitous dispersion around the country.

The beltway GOP really thinks nobody is watching them on this. Pretty clear K Street is going to get what it wants one way or another.

The role, or extent, of Mexicans in illegal immigration has been diminishing. Central American OTMs are more of a problem now.

The first attempt at focusing on the Central American illegals was 2006/2007 when Bush and the GOP congress increased spending on border enforcement to end Catch and Release of the OTMs.

That led to the problem of detaining the women and children OTMs with the men, which required congress to pass legislation separating the two groups. And that led to the most recent problem of the women and children OTMs from central America flooding the border.

When the border patrol apprehends an illegal Mexican in the border zone, they can be returned to Mexico without consent, detention, or legal hearings. Because Mexico readily accepts them.

But it is different with OTMs. They can't be returned to Mexico because Mexico won't accept them. Instead, they have to detain them, have hearings, then get the country of origin to accept return of the OTM. Its a lot more expensive dealing with OTMs than it is with Mexicans, especially if the OTM is a woman or a child.

It would have been a lot better/cheaper if Congress had been able to reform immigration policy in 2006.

While I'd agree that the numbers of Mexican (state citizens) may have diminished, the aid, encouragement and assistance provided by the Mexican Government has not in my opinion. We've all seen the pictures of the glory trains transiting the entire north-south breadth of Mexico carrying those OTMs as well as the tunnels, the semis, the tankers and so on.

I'd also grant that there are a lot of other venues for entry into this country from ports, shorelines, to tankers and semis, etc. all the way to our own DHS now chartering flights to these OTM countries and picking them up! However, as a country with a known policy of support for, assistance to and encouragement of illegal entry into the United States, Mexico has not diminished its efforts in my opinion.

Lastly, I'd certainly agree about Mexican citizens being easier to return - if our government (this Administration were only inclined to do). The main problem right now with Obama and his ilk is one of pandering for future votes, coupled with a complete demographic makeover of this country to keep on getting those votes so they can stay in power forever.

I’ve listened to a couple of Donald Trump’s speeches (SC Summit and Iowa Summit). And, he’s brought up how Mexico is taking jobs away from the US as major US companies are continuing to build manufacturing plants down there, including auto makers. Don’t quote me on this but I seem to recall that he said that we should put import taxes on their goods (he’s said that about goods from China for some time). Perhaps, Sen Rubio should have a little chat with Mr. Trump.

The AKs were probably manufactured as full auto and didn't need to be converted.

This was the hoax of F&F... Why pay $1000 for a semi when you can get a full auto from your cocaine supplier for $50?

TPP is for the benefit of Transnational corporations. Workers will be able to move about freely. None of the treat negotiations are for our benefit. If some of the Elites are complaining it is because they want to hold the treaty up until they get a bigger piece of the pie.

So we should have surrendered the country in 2006?

McCain/Kennedy was a disaster and would have resulted in the the country being overrun.

As it is we still have a fighting chance to retain the rule of law.
