We Marines have always done rescue and humanitarian efforts. Marine Dad here and mine has only been in since 2008 and I confess to not paying real close attention to mission details before that.
I guess I need to educate myself on the "always" part, because it is my impression (only) that the humanitarian piece is a relatively recent development.

I guess I need to educate myself on the "always" part, because it is my impression (only) that the humanitarian piece is a relatively recent development. If they aren't killing people and they are ashore in other than a liberty status they are doing humanitarian ops or training.
