Military officials are searching for a marine light attack helicopter that went missing Tuesday near Charikot, Nepal, Pentagon officials said, at around 10 p.m. Japan Standard Time. The aircraft was assisting with disaster relief as earthquake have struck the south Asian nation, which killed thousands late last month. Another earthquake there on Tuesday killed at least 68 more.

Marine Dad here and mine has only been in since 2008 and I confess to not paying real close attention to mission details before that.
I guess I need to educate myself on the "always" part, because it is my impression (only) that the humanitarian piece is a relatively recent development.

If they aren't killing people and they are ashore in other than a liberty status they are doing humanitarian ops or training.
