Redemption for 'Bountygate' wasn't happening with 'Deflategate' penalties

Nothing short of suspending Tom Brady and Bill Belichick for the 2015 NFL season would satisfy many New Orleans Saints fans for the New England Patriots' involvement in Deflategate.

The NFL announced Monday a four-game suspension for Brady and several other sanctions for the Patriots for the intentional use of deflated footballs last season. Some penalties levied on the Patriots organization were harsher than what the Saints received in the bounty scandal.

Belichick should at least have been suspended. IMHO.

Nonsense...there is no comparison in the seriousness of the charges and I’m not aware that Belechik has been found responsible for anything in deflate-gate.

I tend to agree, based on Goddell’s own precedent with New Orleans. I thought the Sean Payton suspension was extreme, but if that’s the standard, it should remain the standard. A whole year may not be warranted in this case, but some punishment would be at least somewhat consistent.

Payton was not involved in the New Orleans situation, but Goddell said ignorance is not an excuse.

Neither did Payton..goodell said ignorance is no excuse and banned him from the ENTIRE NFL for the season..Payton couldn’t even buy a ticket to see Atlanta play Seattle. Plus this is Belichick’s second offense (spygate) in which a first round pick was surrendered..that should have been taken into account.

Still the “bounty-gate” charges (whatever the truth) are exponentially more serious in my opinion.

ironically..the evidence was lacking in the bountygate scandal and the players penalties were rescinded..coaches, having no unions, have to suck it up and accept what penalties are handed down..Belichick shouldn’t be banned for a year, actually you will probably never see that again since goodell so screwed up with the Saints, but at least be consistent with the ignorance is no excuse line that he created. Also, like I said, Belichick team is a two-time offender..

Charges were more serious. All of them were dropped against the players once the arbitrator ruled. It will be the same in New England. There is simply not evidence linking Brady to this, as there was not with the players in New Orleans.
