How a Darth Vader selfie showed the worst side of social media (Australia)

Good God. Really? A year is the most recent? I have a STRONG suspicion he took a plea because that was the outcome in other cases.

what is it with texas prosecutors lately? it seems they are always in the news pushing their weight around on people that don’t deserve it. we always think texas is one big red state but there are a lot of little blue islands where DA’s can do whatever they want. they always say ‘you may beat the rap but you wont beat the ride”. the process IS the punishment in most of these cases.

a freeper gave me the history of Texas and the different areas. I was surprised that some are quite liberal. This story is inanity.
The terrorist laws are being applied a little too easily.
I guess the cities and states are so terrified about the “what if” and the lawsuits or outcries that they go extreme, like in this situation

They did - this story is local to me (and I use the mall where it happened a couple of times a month), so I've seen a lot of news coverage about this.

The man's phone was analysed (and they can see if images or messages were deleted) and no photos of the women's children were on it. The only image from anywhere near the time it happened is the image of the man himself in front of the Star Wars display. His version checks out, hers doesn't, and she has accepted she got it wrong.

The man did speak to the kids briefly saying something like: "I'll be out of the way in a minute - I am just taking a photo to send to my kids," when he realised they wanted to look at the display as well. Her kids either gave her a scrambled version, or she scrambled it herself. I don't doubt she believed there was a problem - but she was wrong - and rather than leave it to the police (who were investigating) she decided to post her photo of the man outside the store and publically smear him.

the clincher is that he didn’t have the kid’s pic on his phone. that means she made the whole thing about his taking their pic to send to a 16 year old was made up. doubt the kids made that part up....she shouuld face the consequences of her actions. i hope she went on all them sites and apologized (for starters)
