President Obama on Friday lashed out at critics within his own party as he accused fellow Democrats of deliberately distorting the potential impact of the sweeping new trade agreement he is negotiating with Asia and standing in the way of a modern competitive economy.
With the same tone of disdain he usually reserves for his Republican adversaries, Mr. Obama said liberals who are fighting the new trade accord, the Trans-Pacific Partnership, were just wrong and, in terms of some of their claims, making this stuff up. If they oppose the deal, he said, they must be satisfied with the status quo and want to pull up the drawbridge and build a moat around ourselves.
There have been a bunch of critics about trade deals generally and the Trans-Pacific Partnership, he told hundreds of workers at the Nike headquarters here. And whats interesting is typically theyre my friends coming from my party. And theyre my fellow travelers on minimum wage and on job training and on clean energy and on every progressive issue, theyre right there with me. And then on this, theyre like whupping on me.
But Mr. Obama said that he had no political motive for supporting freer trade with Asia. Ive run my last election, he said. And the only reason I do something is because I think its good for American workers and the American people and the American economy. And so, on this issue, on trade, I actually think some of my dearest friends are wrong. Theyre just wrong.
The presidents speech here on the sprawling campus of the shoe and sports apparel company represented his most expansive defense of his trade agenda since he asked Congress to grant him negotiating power often called fast-track authority.

Most gains go to immigrants...
100% of job gains among women...
If it’s so great, Obama, why not make the major details of the proposals public rather than doing everything in secret?
Can anyone tell me the benefit of the trade we have conducted over the last twenty years?
We now have 95 million unemployed and China is about to put a space station in orbit. (a year or two out)
Our space station is a place we can no longer move humans to.
Russia could destroy it, and we’d be unable to respond.
Oh yes, let’s please have more trade deals. Pretty please...
Why hasn’t this degenerate malignancy been arrested?
“While most Republicans support granting him negotiating power”....
Only 2 republican senators actually read the trade deal.
I watched the limo roll past our office this morning. 30 motorcycles preceded the 2 limos. Saw the suburban gun ship too. Then an ambulance and a half dozen vans too. Impressive. Would have been more excited 10 or 12 years ago if you know what I mean.
What is happening to Ted Cruz? DC fever?
You know Obama’s presidency is essentially over if he can no longer use threats and bribery to persuade his fellow Democrats to do his bidding.
Yet in his weakened state, knowing that the majority of his party is against him on free trade, you’d think he could at least have the decency to refrain from attacking his own party members in public. But no, that would be too much to ask of Obama.
“Only Two Republicans Admit They Actually Read Secret Obama Trade DealBOTH UNSUPPORTED”
Sen. Mike Lee and Sen. Sessions are against it. I tend to be against it too.

Amanda Carpenter, the spokeswoman for SEN. TED CRUZ (R-TX)
didnt answer whether the Senator,(WHO SUPPORTS TPA),as he laid out in a Wall Street Journal op-ed with House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)
has read the text of the TPP deal either.
He said it - not me. :)
He is arguing against the status quo, when he has been the leader for over 6 years. SMH
