Ed Miliband today announced he was quitting as Labour leader after calling David Cameron to congratulate him on his extraordinary election victory. He insisted he took full responsibility for the dreadful night of results, which saw big names including Ed Balls, Douglas Alexander and Jim Murphy swept out by the Tories and the SNP. He thanked his supporters for their backing, selfies and the 'most unlikely cult ever' Milifandom, as he confirmed Harriet Harman will take over as acting leader. 'I am truly sorry I did not succeed. I did my best for five years,' he said. 'We've come back before and this party will come back again.'

HA HA!!! The guy stabbed his own brother in the back to become Labour leader and he has nothing to show for it. Also, he relied on Team Obama especially Axelrod.

Didn’t he say that making Islamophobic comments should be made a crime? If so, not surprising that he got his lunch handed to him last night and maybe there is hope for the UK after all.

How so? The same “Conservative” Party that pushed through gay marriage is who won here.

Yes he did. And the Labour party was holding political rallies with men and women segregated so the Muslims wouldn’t be offended.

Point well taken. The general comments seem to be that the Tories tend to be Labour in slow motion in numerous instances (as a result, I certainly would have liked to have seen more UKIP success last night, along with many others here).

Oftentimes, the jokes write themselves. Maybe he knows Tom Brady, being that his ego may have been, ahem, deflated.

There was a revelation of over 1400 white British girls raped by Pakistani Muslims in Rottherham over several years, while police suppressed reports, reported rapes as consensual, arrested two fathers for trying to get girls back for disturbing the peace, threatened teachers who tried to report grooming of 12-14 year old girls ... and there’s a similar scandal in Sheffield that may be as big.

Why did police suppress mass rape of white girls by Muslims? Because all the perps were “Asian” Muslim, they didn’t want to prosecute because it would have been RACIST.

What was the Labour party’s solution? Make Islamophobia a formal crime.

This is not the same Conservative Party as under Thatcher, by a long shot.

(...results which saw big names including Ed Balls...)

That’s the biggest of the names. A very brassy name! ROTFL!

To make an analogy, the GOP won the Senate. How’s that playing out for the Constitution and conservative principles?

As regards Cameron, a loss for Labour is in no way a victory for conservative principles any more than a GOP Senate lead by McConnell is.

Just [maybe] a little less of a disaster. Heads they win, tails you lose. BFD

I’ve heard that Harriet Harman is an even bigger loon than Miliband.

Liberalism is dying throughout the western world. Our chance will come as soon as we get rid of the vermin infesting conservatism. Boehner, McConnell, Graham and their ilk must be exterminated from the ranks of conservative politics.

The Tories cut spending, cut welfare and they stole UKIP’s thunder by running against Europe.

It worked.

The GOP ran against Obamacare. Where has that gotten us?
