It is reported we've stopped escorting commercial ships, after a couple days.
I don't believe they "chased" U.S. warships which implies hostile intent. Probably followed them in international waters. IMO this is an environment of uncertainty, localized and at the highest levels, which invites misjudgement and the mistakes that fosters.

The Iranian Navy chasing the US Navy is an example of the proverbial story about a dog chasing a car. Of course the question is the same for both stories: what are you going to do with them once you “catch” them?
Because, just like the dog doesn’t really want to get tangled with a car tire, so too do the Iranians want to avoid the BITE of the American Navy!
I’d stand in line to watch the movie, “One A10 vs. the Whole Iranian Navy”.
