You can call it a bureaucratic blunder or a Washington blooper.
But any way you slice it a move by the federal government to make the city remove Times Squares iconic billboards falls in the category of whose bright idea is this?
It is known as the Crossroads of the World, the Center of the Universe and the Great White Way, but Times Square could become like the Black Hole of Calcutta if the federal government has its way, CBS2s Marcia Kramer reported Tuesday.
The feds say many of Times Squares huge and neon-lit billboards must come down or the city will lose about $90 million in federal highway money.

What a complete waste of some bureaucrat's time. It will probably take an act of Congress to exempt Times Square from something the Feds have no business getting involved with to begin with.
Totalitarian.
uh I believe that any highway beautification act...would be meant to be applied to roadways outside of Urban Areas??
Do the billboards In NYC...block a lot of fantastic VEIWS? are they restricting Forest Growth ???
oh well
Scotus regards it as perfectly constitutional.
Re: “Totalitarian.”
I agree with you, but in a way, didn’t New York have it coming? Isn’t this the type of governmental liberalism New Yorkers are always lecturing us about. The oddity is that it is actually happening to them. Usually they force this kind of crap on everyone else BUT themselves. Somebody goofed. This will not be enforced on New York.
I’m no fan of New York by any stretch of the imagination, but the feds are so f’d up on this one, even something akin to a nemesis would be your ally on this.
New York, tell the feds to go to hell.
One of these days some folks in the Left are going to wake up and start realizing just what the Left as a whole is doing to this nation.
The master negotiator speakes
like this to Americans about America
but he gives away the Farm to Iran , Cuba , etc..,etc..
Good! Feel the pain idiots!
Dat's Racist.
I can remember going to New York with my parents in the early 60's. The billboard with the guy smoking Camels was the highlight of my trip. I'd never seen a sign that blew smoke like that. The only other neon sign that grabbed me as a kid was the animated sign of Paul Revere in Rome, New York. My Dad worked on the NY Central, and we got to ride the train for free. We lived in Rochester, and always came through Rome on our way home. We'd have our Dad make sure he woke us up so we could see Paul Revere riding his horse. I live in Rome now, and the sign is still there...working, even though the Revere company has gone from here.
This is an easy fix. Just put posters of Obama and his logo up every few seconds and they will be left alone.
SCOTUS has no understanding of the Constitution and even less regard for it.
Watch out Las Vegas, they’re coming for you.
LOL.
No pity for NYC
All the top NYC politicians were at the Obama fundraising gala.
Hows that working for ya, NYC?
CHUCKLE
Maybe they can have another gala with the morons that elected the lesser evils and cry as one when NYC goes to sun temperature in a flash.
Mayor Bill de Blasio is a complete A$$ but he needs to tell the A$$ in the WH to get stuffed.
” The billboard with the guy smoking Camels was the highlight of my trip. “
Watch the Martin and Lewis movie “Artists and Models” on youtube. The whole movie is there.
I agree.
Most likely they don’t care what happens to more rural areas.
