Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has met with the Ethiopian Jewish soldier whose beating by two police officers, captured on CCTV, sparked days of violent unrest fuelled by decades of repression suffered by the minority community.
Netanyahu met Israeli soldier Damas Pakada a day after thousands demonstrators, who saw the footage as evidence of police racism and brutality, clashed violently with officers on the streets of Tel Aviv.
In a tweet on the prime minister's Twitter account accompanying a picture of himself and Mr Pakada embracing, Netanyahu wrote: 'I was shocked by the pictures. We cannot accept it, we will change things,'
The clashes reflected widespread frustration in the Ethiopian community which, three decades after it first arrived in Israel, has become an underclass plagued by poverty, crime and unemployment.

Bibi speaks up against a possiy- racist police action seeking to prevent it from recurring - whereas for the most part Obama and Holder have been promoting racial conflict and violence in the streets of America.
No country’s perfect and neither is any political leader. But when it comes to today’s WashingtonDC we sure got the booby prize!
it seems outrageous to me that any Israeli police would hassle any uniformed member of the IDF , regardless of what color he/she is . IDF is the rock of the Jewish State . IDF soldiers should be shown utmost respect and deference.

Why do I feel a connection with blond haired blue eyed guys (no, I’m not gay :))? Perhaps because I am blond/blue and feel some tribal connection from long ago.
But we must fight that part of us which leads to violence against those who are different. Maybe it was needed way back when, now, not so much.
And every IDF member who is doing his or her job right deserves all of Israel’s respect.
Police and Soldiers ironically enforce opposing concerns.
It would be good to see policing “evolve” to a point where law enforcement can operate freely but at high constitutional standards, and with a fraction of the personnel.

When my kids were little I’m not sure how much of a distinction they even had. I owe that to my wife (and me keeping quiet!). As they got older they started seeing more differences. And one of them recently commented that it seems to be even worse since obama has been President. Sad.

I mean, at the time, I was dating a lot!!
When my lovely daughter was in elementary school, we were living in a mixed neighborhood and the kids got along just fine. One day she asked us why some of her friends “looked different”. Kids notice these things and they get curious, it’s really no different than when they ask where babies come from. We just explained to her that the important thing is to try to get along with people regardless of what they look like.
I will say this about this incident at least Bibi did right and is refraining from pointing fingers for now and will deal with these offenders soon enough, with that being said there will always be jackasses who do not care for you and are intolerant for many reasons however I will say that they are better in Israel than back home where they are hated, and the Israeli government did airlift them out in the 80’s after their Jewishness was proven.
