Police Association Has ‘Deep Concerns’ About Prosecutor’s ‘Many Conflicts of Interest’..

...in Freddie Gray Case
The Fraternal Order of Police has suggested that Baltimore State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby may not be able to run a fair, impartial investigation of the death of Freddie Gray at the hands of police, in part because of her close relationship with the Gray family’s lawyer.

Mosby on Friday announced charges against six Baltimore police officers for manslaughter, second-degree assault and misconduct related to Gray’s death. Gray suffered a fatal spinal injury while in police custody, an event that led to rioting in the city this week.

Just before Mosby announced that charges were filed, the Fraternal Order of Police’s Baltimore City Lodge asked Mosby to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Gray’s death because of her “conflicts of interest” in the case.

“While I have the utmost respect for you and your office, I have very deep concerns about the many conflicts of interest presented by your office conducting an investigation in this case,” wrote Gene Ryan, president of the Baltimore lodge.

“These conflicts include your personal and professional relationship with Gray family attorney, William Murphy, and the lead prosecutor’s connections with members of the local media,” he wrote. “Based on several nationally televised interviews, these reporters are likely to be witnesses in any potential litigation regarding this incident.” Ryan’s letter also indicated that the investigation could somehow be skewed given that Mosby’s husband, Nick, is a Baltimore City councilman.

“Most importantly, it is clear that your husband’s political future will be directly impacted, for better or worse, by the outcome of your investigation,” Ryan wrote. “In order to avoid any appearance of impropriety or a violation of the Professional Rules of Professional Responsibility, I ask that you appoint a special prosecutor to determine whether or not any charges should be filed.”

Mosby’s biography says she is the youngest chief prosecutor of “any major city in America,” and said she is a Boston native who joined the State’s Attorney Office after graduating from Boston College Law School.

While Mosby said she is charging the six officers with “homicide,” Ryan rejected that conclusion.

“As tragic as this situation is, none of the officers involved are responsible for the death of Mr. Gray,” he wrote. “To the contrary, at all times, each of the officers diligently balanced their obligations to protect Mr. Gray and discharge their duties to protect the public.”

An appearance of impropriety.

Loks like the cops already had strong grounds for appeals before the investigations even started. I can't help but wonder if Mosby has some ulterior motive to intentionally throw this case?

Now why exactly should it be acceptable to tell Mosby that her husband’s future career will be impacted by decisions he has no part in making? Does that seem a barely veiled threat to anyone else?

Yawn. The FOB should not be defending murderous cops. Always bad that cops circle to defend their own, often lying to do so, denying the facts, even refusung to consider the some cops might be bad. Most prosecutors and judges favor cops, so maybe is a refreshing balance. Sorry I don’t think all cops are bad, but I have zero tolerance for bad ccps.

Sharpton told her what to do from val and the boy, and a new job would await her if there were any problems.

This is one of those “pox on several houses” situations. A maelstrom of monkey business is abounding on every side.

Not to me. The author of the letter is just pointing out that Mosby’s actions can arguably be tailored to further her husband’s career (rather than the interests of truth and justice).

That constitutes a conflict of interest.

Yeah, and his racist fingerprints are all over this....including his gutter-dwelling water boy, Sharpton. Just a bunch of commies trying to tear down America’s system of justice.

Every week in Chicago numerous Blacks are killed by Blacks gangs, and nobody care.

Nationwide according to the FBI in 2011, 193 blacks were killed by whites, 448 White killed by Blacks while 2,447 blacks were killed by blacks. That is 2.3 times more whites killed by blacks than the other way around despite the fact that there’s six times as many whites in this country.

Do Black lives really matter? How many of the parents of Blacks murdered by Blacks received a call of Obama or send his personal representative to the funeral? Did our condolences in chief has ever called the parents of so many Whites killed by Blacks?

Why the Baltimore riots, looting and destruction of their own Black neighborhoods? Did the Blacks doubted for a moment that the Black establishment in control of Baltimore will fail to condemn the officers to the highest penalty allowed by Law? Four of the accused officers are the ones charged with manslaughter. Of those 4, three are Blacks and one is White. Their heads will be presented to the mobs in a silver plate to placate the rabble of noisy angry thugs.

Democratic hard left control of Baltimore is the main cause of the riots and racial division in spite that all the power is in the hand of Black democrats for several generations.

Black Baltimore Mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, ordered the police: to “stand down” “LET THEM LOOT. IT’ S ONLY PROPERTY” . We saw hell explode after the Black democratic mayor gave the thugs carte blanche to destroy the city. The police weren’t allowed to defend the city. More than 100 officers were injured, some seriously.

Lawless rioters feed bigotry against all blacks (Open Letter From an African American)

New York Post ^ | April 30, 2015 | Deroy Murdock

Dear Black Thugs:

To each of you I echo what actor Terrence Howard’s character told his gangbanger brother in the film “Crash”: “You embarrass me. You embarrass yourself.”

From Ferguson to Baltimore, the whole world is watching as you run wild. Thanks to you, plate-glass store windows shatter into shards. You pry ATMs from walls to drain them of cash. And you enjoyed a 100-percent-off shopping spree — damn the consequences.

How does ripping off a bottle of whiskey from a smoldering liquor store help us overcome?

Look at your devastation: You burned 17 businesses to the ground in Ferguson, worth an estimated $4.6 million. Thanks to your violence, the Orioles beat the Chicago White Sox inside an empty Camden Yards stadium Wednesday. For safety’s sake, the next three Orioles home games, against the Tampa Bay Rays, will shift to Florida.

What you don’t see are the CVS pharmacies and other businesses that never will open in Baltimore, Compton, East St. Louis and other predominantly black communities. Why not?

Because black derelicts like you have taught companies to think long and hard before operating where your ilk might turn their money into cinders.

You don’t see the unpaid bills of those lucky enough to have jobs but unable to perform them, thanks to relocated ball games, conventions and special events.

The rest of the letter

I don’t think she’ll get help from the feds, all Obama did was criticise the protestors and the whole thing could do major damage to two democratic party rising stars, Rawlings-Blake and O’Malley, I’m sure they all just want this to go away. It isn’t a case of racism, what is on trial here is abuse of power. I wonder if she really has the grassroots support she needs to do this?

First, it’s FOP not FOB. Second, most police chiefs are political animals and often willing to throw street cops under the bus. The FOP is the only voice the cop has to protect him or her when accusations are made.

What are you talking about bad cops? These Baltimore officers are being railroaded. A lawyer on Levin’s show this evening was explaining how egregious and absurd these charges are. I hope these cops get a change of venue, because they are surely not going to get a fair trial in Baltimore.
