Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke (D) reacted to a report that police in Baltimore were told to stand down by stating he would defy any such order on Thursdays OReilly Factor on the Fox News Channel.

That’s General David Clarke! See the rank on his epaulets in the photo behind the link—general’s rank! He’s a general of our U.S. Army, and the civilians in our Army can’t do anything about it!
No Mayor has any authority to order a Sheriff to do anything.
I’d Like to get David Clarke and James Craig together to deal with this stuff.
Please note the lack of Rioting in Milwaukee and Detroit.
Hooray! And, happy Friday!
I believe they were trying to get one going in Detroit after that incident earlier in the week where the federal agent shot the guy they were pursuing for armed robbery then he allegedly came after them with a claw hammer after they found him hiding in the attic. The media was trying to gin it up.
Hillary may soil the Oval Office again because of the "gimmedats", but it's becoming clear that the States want their rights back as clearly spelled out in the 9th and 10th Amendments.
If the Republicans can hold on to the House and Senate, while the States re-assert their power, she won't be able to further her socialist agenda nor Obambi's marxist agenda.
Makes me wonder if the Mayor was given the order to stand down by the very top, the Kenyan, all so the Kenyans hired goons could go to work. Pro rioters cost a lot of money you know, plus you have to fly them in, organize them in which the Kenyans community organizing skills proves useful. “OK you and you and you, spread the rumor that Gray was killed by the POH-leese, and you and you and you start smashing store windows, and you and you start handing out flyers to advertise...” Isn’t it odd it took a week after Gray died for this “riot” to occur? Most blacks I know tend to celebrate when the neighborhood drug dealer is taken out, not riot. But what does it matter, I guess next week we will have a brand new riot in some other city. You know if the Kenyan wanted an excuse to issue Martial law, he would probably be better served if he got involved with organizing terror attacks. After all he has the connections. Plus it’s not like Congress will do anything about it.
Sheriff Clarke never served a day in the military.
but...... important but, the mayor in question runs Baltimore city, not Baltimore county
I know both are elected positions, but have never understood the power relationship between the Sheriff and the Mayor or more so the power over the Fedgov (unless a federal crime). Can you please explain how that works? Also, does the same power issue exist in all counties?
This guy knows what to say & do to ensure reelection.
I’ve seen him many times on Cavuto. Although he might lack the dyed in the wool 100% conservative purity demanded by many here, he more than meets the standard for conservative.
The mayor is a member of city government, the sheriff is a member of county government; neither has any authority over the other.
Same goes for every county in the country, to the best of my knowledge.
There are a handful of consolidated county/Largest City governments.
Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas come to mind for me.
The city is within and part of the county.
Although the city asserts law enforcement within it’s borders, does not the Sheriff actually have the authority if he chooses to enforce it.
In my county, the sheriff serves as the instrument of the county courts and serves papers and such for the county courts within the cities.
Baltimore is kind of weird. As near as I can tell, it’s not actually part of a county. Baltimore County surrounds most of it but the City is it’s own entity.
There is a Sheriff, but I’ve never heard him do anything. I think the Sheriff office does strictly prisoner transfers and incarceration.
It does seem that many of the Maryland County Sheriff’s have read and understand the Constitution and are doing what they can to stem the madness.
