Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, who is putting a lot of emphasis on Iowa in his presidential campaign, is continuing to notch endorsements from some well-known activists in the state.
Former Secretary of State Matt Schultz told the Quad-City Times on Wednesday he is endorsing Cruz for president.
"Im looking for somebody whos going to stand up and fight for our country, and he gives me hope we can turn things around," said Schultz, who is now the Madison County Attorney. "He's not going to back down from a fight."
In a letter to two dozen members of the Cruz leadership team in Iowa, the campaign says it is drawing support from people who were active in the past campaigns of Rick Santorum, Mike Huckabee, Ron Paul, Michele Bachmann and Mitt Romney. Santorum and Huckabee are previous caucus winners.
The letter was provided by the Cruz campaign.
"He is going to do extraordinarily well in Iowa, and be competitive in every other state by bringing together all sides of the GOP coalition: social, fiscal and national security conservatives ...," Bryan English, the Cruz campaign's state director in Iowa, wrote.
Others who are on Cruz's team include Bill Salier of Nora Springs, who ran for the party's 2002 U.S. Senate nomination; state Sen. Jake Chapman of Adel, state Rep. Larry Sheets of Moulton, Rep. Greg Heartsill of Melcher-Dallas, Rep. Steve Holt of Denison and Rep. Ralph Watts of Adel, as well as Vicki Crawford, a home school advocate from Granger, and the Revs. Mike Demastus of Des Moines and Bradley Cranston of Burlington.
Some of the two dozen on the leadership team already have made their support for Cruz known, including Joel Kurtinitis, Chad Steenhoek and state Sen. Jason Schultz of Schleswig, who are part of the Liberty movement in Iowa.
Here is the complete list:
Matt Schultz, chair, Truro
Marlin Bontrager, Kalona
Becky Bontrager, Kalona
State Sen. Jake Chapman, Adel
The Rev. Bradley Cranston, Burlington
Vicki Crawford, Granger
Pastor Mike Demastus, Des Moines

You beat me by a few minutes on this one. LOL
Go support Cruz:

If you are conservative and solvent, it’s time to put your money where your mouth is.
There are very few more important priorities for a solvent conservative’s money than decisively winning this moment for this candidate. Go do it now. You’ll thank yourself later.
IMHO.
Pretty impressive list. My greatest concern is this: For some reason, the person, on the GOP side (not the ‘RATS), who wins the Iowa Caucus NEVER goes on to win the nomination. Since 1988, I can’t remember anyone in the GOP ranks who won Iowa and eventually became the Party’s nominee. Correct me if I’m wrong.
As a long-time FReeper, I am stepping up to the edge of direct solicitation. I don’t know the detailed rules of the site, and I don’t want to step on Jim Thompson’s toes.
So, if someone knows how direct we can or cannot be suggesting political action including solicitation of campaign funding, please let me know. I’ll stay within the bounds of FR, whatever they may be.
Good job.....especially because you beat 2ndDivisionVet to the punch
LOL
Everybody beats me once-in-a-while. I’m a poster, Stephen, not a miracle worker!
See my tagline. I’m a bundler, as they call them.
"Dammit Jim, Im a Doctor not a (fill in the blank)"
I’m also from Iowa (1974-2002) and have worked within the party and on presidential campaigns. Those who won previously didn’t have the horsepower and money to go on and win the nomination. If Ted Cruz wins Iowa, that shouldn’t be a problem. He already has more cash than Huckabee, Santorum and McCain did (for the primaries) combined.
GW Bush in 2000 and Bob Dole in ‘96, and Romney was within a few votes of winning in 2012.
Iowa has been native habitat for the RINO. The religious conservative reputation is based solely on 2008 and 2012.
Gov. Branstad’s establishment will likely get Walker to the top in Iowa, with Cruz taking a strong second which is plenty good enough.
I signed up with the NH Cruz 2016 team a couple of weeks ago, and we had our first NH telephone meeting last week, though I’m not sure if the meetings have been sub-categorized into county levels yet.
that’s great ...we need one million more like you !

Am I correct in thinking that Pat Robertson won Iowa in 1988?
Pat Robertson finished well behind Bob Dole and ahead of GHW Bush in the 1988 Iowa caucuses.
