The entire junior class of a Seattle high school sent an unmistakable message to President Obama and other supporters of the Common Core curriculum last week: Thanks, but no thanks.

Not a single junior at Nathan Hale High showed up Tuesday to take new state exams in reading and math, a Seattle Public Schools spokeswoman told The Seattle Times.

That’s 280 students who skipped the tests in a show of force.

**SNIP**

“They didn’t skip school all day,” district spokeswoman Stacy Howard told the newspaper. “They just didn’t show up during the testing period.”

Doug Edelstein, a history teacher at Nathan Hale, said the opt-out honored old-fashioned democratic standards.

Wisconsin RATS fled the state. Is that what he means?

Forgot about that one.

Didn't members of that party flee in Texas a few years ago when they weren't getting their way?

They did that in Indiana too.

Democrats are completely unhinged in this state because they have no power, but never blame themselves for acting like children and being put in the super minority by the voters.

“Nathan Hale High...”

Interesting. Wondering if some of the kids were reading a bit of US history?

Any Freeper would be delusional if they think this is some sort of right-wing protest. On the contrary, the left-wing Seattle teacher's union strongly opposes Common Core because of the testing requirements, NOT for the reasons that conservatives oppose it, e.g., dubious pedagogical methods, the abandoning of traditional curricula, and the promotion of left-wing social engineering.

This is strictly a top-down protest against testing and accountability per se, and if anyone thinks this is a spontaneous, grass-roots movement of students, they are wrong. The teachers put them up to it. They can and will do the left-wing social engineering WITHOUT CC.

That is what I figured. They taught kids many many years ago. Then along came busing and academic standards soon slid some. Soon a number of whites quit high school, something unheard of through the mid 60’s. It appears after dumbing education down, teaching folks to pass tests, that educators don’t want to have their performance measured by how well they teach.

You figured right. After all, this is Seattle, and this was NOT a spontaneous uprising of students suddenly motivated by conservative ideals.

I did my student-teaching at Nathan Hale, way too many years ago (I never taught as a professional, but ended up in computer and accounting stuff). My 95-year-old mom still lives abut two miles south of the school.
