Polish President Bronislaw Komorwoski called the comments an “insult to thousands of Poles who helped Jews.” The prime minister, Ewa Kopacz, added, “To those who are incapable of presenting the historic truth in an honest way, I want to say that Poland was not a perpetrator but a victim of World War II.” And the American ambassador in Warsaw did a full grovel. He rebutted the notion that “Poland, or any other countries other than Nazi Germany, bear responsibility for the Holocaust.” He called it “a mistake, harmful and insulting.” He cannot have read the same speech I did. Nowhere in Comey’s speech did he blame Poland for the Holocaust. He simply mentioned “accomplices,” of which Poland had its share.

....Poles, she says, pictured themselves as either saviors or martyrs – but never collaborators. “It was difficult for the majority of Poles to accept the fact that there were these criminals among them, as in Jedwabne. There were even eminent historians who desperately looked for evidence to prove that it was the Germans who did the killing in Jedwabne. Eight years ago, 43 percent said Jews had too much influence.”

So did Judaism. There were Jews who cooperated with the Nazis against other Jews. It was a Jewish spy for the Gestapo who turned in Gad Beck, for instance.
