Political audiences always like patriotic rhetoric, but as several reporters have noticed, this years Republican audiences have a special hunger for it. The phrase American exceptionalism has become a rallying cry. There is a common feeling on the right that the American idea is losing force and focus, that the American dream is slipping out of reach, that America is stepping back from its traditional role in the world and that President Obama doesnt forthrightly champion the American gospel. Even more than normal, Republicans seem to want their candidate for president to be drenched in the red, white and blue.

Apparently, liberals have selected Marco as this election’s John Huntsman.
Good observation. When liberal publications and the GOPe are all atwitter over a candidate, conservatives need to run the other way.
I think once mainstream voters understand Rubio’s position on amnesty, they will reject him.
David Brooks??? That makes it a deal then....NO RUBIO!
The Cheap Labor Express is paying The Ministry Of Propaganda handsomely to convince Americans to give up the rule of law and their country. Rubio’s role is as blocker for Bush. Many of the phony candidates are not really running to be President. They are running to ensure we cannot elect anyone who will stop the cheap labor importation/invasion. The purpose is to split up the votes of conservatives so the RNC can nominate the designated loser for this cycle, Jeb Bush.
From my perspective, Mariel Rubio’s position on amnesty (however he couches that term) is one no different than Jeb Bush whose loyalties aren’t unclear at all in my book.
I do not recall, but has he ever said anything detrimental against Carter (ala the boatlift fiasco?)
ha ha ha
The friend of my enemy is my enemy.
Thanks for the endorsement Mr. Brooks.
I don’t know of any direct remarks about Carter that Rubio has made. He did say that Obama was the worst negotiator on Cuba since Carter .
A vote for the Rube is a vote for Jebbie.
Huh?
What about the thousands of adoring Obama zombies?
I don’t either, just curious. It seems to me however that to embark on such a diversion of supporting some sort of amnesty after having such a rousing conservative beginning he “screwed the pooch” with it.
From my perspective, the ties that led to this must have been extremely strong, thus my comments about “Mariel”.
IMO, there ain’t no walking this back - no way. As far as I’m concerned he’s just a Democrat who won’t admit it.
I’m for Cruz and Walker, in that order. But I’ll vote for Rubio or any other GOP candidate who’s facing the Hildabeast on election day.
