A rookie Ohio cop is being praised for "great restraint and maturity" after he held off using deadly force against a double murder suspect who charged at him, his police chief said.
In a confrontation Thursday with a man accused of killing his fiancee and his best friend, New Richmond Police Officer Jesse Kidder is heard on his body-camera video yelling, "No man, I'm not going to do it!" and ordering the suspect to get down on the ground.
The suspect rushes toward him shouting, "Shoot me, shoot me!"
"Back up!" screams Kidder, holding his gun out. The man finally crumples to the ground just feet away from the officer in the video taken in the Cincinnati suburb of Elsmere, Kentucky.

In the Kentucky case, the suspect was believed to be armed and is heard threatening the officer on the video.
"For him to make the judgment call that he did shows great restraint and maturity," New Richmond Police Chief Randy Harvey told WLWT about Kidder, who's been on the force for a year. "This video footage, it eliminated all doubt that this officer would have been justified if in fact it came to a shooting."
Kidder, who did two tours of duty in Iraq as a Marine and is a Purple Heart recipient, told WLWT that a relative had given him a body camera to use at work after the Ferguson shooting.

(pshhh...)
Seriesly. Was this a rookie mistake? Or a stone cold calculated, well thought out decision that worked?
"I was trying to open a dialogue with him. 'I don't want to shoot you, get on the ground,' but he wasn't having it. He kept repeating, 'Shoot me.' At one point, he said 'Shoot me or I'll shoot you,'" Kidder told WLWT.
What no cop shooting like a Nazi story or the tired old one of shooting a dog? LOL.
good for this cop but he sure was taking a risk with his own life.
There is a video years back of another GA cop doing the same and he ended up dead with a bunch of rounds in his head after a traffic stop. The cop was trying to be nice and not resort to deadly force.
Anyone interested here is the link and video to watch.
Bet the cops end up getting blamed for that as well.
JBT ping.
You’re a fair guy. When a cop shows fairness, decency and restraint; you will ping that too.
Question is... Is this cop a moron lucky to be alive?
You bet. They need to hire more cops who’ll shoot quickly, regardless if they ever see a weapon or not.
That's the job - anyone not man enough should find a different vocation.
Sadly, the media mafia scrutiny will probably lead to more officer deaths due to be overly cautious. I have to wonder how much potential scrutiny influenced his decision. He looked well justified to at least shoot to injure and stop this person.

A brave job indeed then.
A risk in the fact that he could have ended up like the other cop on the link provided on this thread.
He too was being nice and was more of a rookie who did not want to used deadly force right away. He died with a shot to the head finishing him off
If you have time please check the links on the thread of another nice cop though the outcome was different.
That's the job - anyone not man enough should find a different vocation.
It's not a cops job to take an unnecessary risk.
That’s right. They should be hiring officers who’ll shoot suspects to death even if they don’t see a weapon.
Why take any chances?
And now we get to pay for the perp’s incarceration for the next 45 years.
Now lefties and other cop haters (near and far) are going to be demanding this level of insanity from every police officer out there. The dude is lucky to be alive.
Clearly this was a case of the killer trying “suicide by cop”.
I think the primary factor was his military service, where he learned that saving his own skin was not the highest priority - which is also true of any police officer worthy of his badge.
His chief says different:
"For him to make the judgment call that he did shows great restraint and maturity," New Richmond Police Chief Randy Harvey told WLWT
I heard that dispatch may have told the cop this guy was wanting to commit suicide by cop. Also the cop was a war veteran.
