AFGE Activists in Texas Join the Nationwide Fight for 15 Movement

Activists from AFGE Local 1920, AFGE Local 2109, and AFGE District 10 rallied in solidarity at Fort Hood Army Base Wednesday in support of a $15/hour minimum wage and a union for all workers. They joined labor activists all across the country who protested on April 15 to demand higher wages for low-wage workers, including those employed by the federal government.

“We’re standing up for our colleagues,” said Cheryl Eliano, AFGE District 10 National Vice President. “These dedicated workers support our troops every day, but can’t afford to support their own families.”

AFGE stands in solidarity with the Fight for 15 campaign. We proudly join adjunct faculty, home care workers, child care providers, airport staff, retailers, hospitality workers, and countless others in their struggle for a shot at the American dream. All working people deserve a decent living wage that enables them to support their families, and we will march onward until that day comes.

Here's your $15/hr. burger-flipper by the end of the year if they get their wish.

The organizers are in full swing. I think we’re going to see the hottest summer since the late 60s.

Did they protest on April 15 because they want to be in a higher wage bracket so they can pay more taxes and receive less welfare benefits? And pay higher prices for everything because businesses have higher labor costs? What patriots!

The federal wage scale is tiered based on position, years of service and type of work they do.

My point is, if you give the lowest guy on the totem pole 15 bucks an hour the whole pay scale will have to be adjusted accordingly so all get a similar portion of the loot.

For example, if a FWS grade one appropriated fund dude goes from $10.09 per hour up to $15, then the guy who’s put in several years time to get to grade 5 @ $15.49 will feel screwed. If all pay scales are adjusted accordingly, the payroll could increase by 50%.

But don’t worry, obama has a plan for that. Give them the increases, then use it to justify allowing illegals to work for the fed gov and get rid of those that are already there.

Problem solved.

Unions negotiate compensation based on the minimum wage.

This isn’t about the worker. It’s about increased labor pay on union contracts. This is why all the unions are involved.

I gave up patronizing the fast food places six months ago because their prices were too high. Now the protesters by their demands, want to increase prices even more. If they’re not happy with their wages, why should I contribute to putting more money in their pockets. Let them economize like I have to do.

Go away, Cheryl! We don’t need any more reds making noise about wages. We’ve got enough in Congress doing that.
