[Excerpt] The International Association of Machinists on Friday withdrew its petition for a vote next week on whether Boeing Co. workers want union representation, saying too much misinformation and outside political interference has created a “toxic” and potentially violent atmosphere that can’t be overcome in just a few days.

The IAM also filed unfair labor practices charges against Boeing and halted its door-to-door visits with workers after two union organizers were threatened at gunpoint and others reported hostile and near-violent confrontations, according to a news release.

“After speaking with Boeing workers who we were previously unable to reach, we’ve determined now is not the right time for an election,” Mike Evans, the lead local IAM organizer, said in a statement. The IAM did not get a full list of the 3,175 workers eligible to vote in a union election until earlier this month. Organizers have spent the past week visiting Boeing workers at their homes to gauge their interest in the union.

Evans said the visits showed many workers were confused by “outright lies” Boeing had told them. Evans said the IAM will continue its efforts in North Charleston, and a rescheduled election could take place in as little as six months.

Boeing spokeswoman Candy Eslinger denied the company has created a “toxic environment,” adding Boeing has “taken a very transparent approach to informing our teammates and the community about what it means to be represented by the IAM.”

Sounds like the IAM goons are getting some of their own medicine, they were being told to get the he** off the workers private property.

Love it. Union thugs will visit people's homes over and over and over until the employee gives up and signs the card. Nice to see some push back.

“The union didn’t have the votes”

Exactly, and I’d bet they won’t have them in 6 months either or have an election.

I’ve been out to the Boing S. Carolina plant in Charleston. Almost no one wants the union. Whereas there may be a few concerns about treatment from the company, the union itself didn’t offer any benefit outside of collective bargaining.

In other words give us your money and we’ll have collective bargaining. Not very much to offer.

Yep, and if I remember correctly when Boeing bought the existing plant the employees had a union vote and voted it down.
