Yep. She wasn't exactly kept ship shape.
On the other hand, USS Midway has been made into a terrific museum. She's on the downtown pier in San Diego.

She is old and worn. But it’s too bad she couldn’t be turned into a museum.

I've never been on a naval vessel aside from the enemy sub at the museum in Chicago. I may go check out the USS Edson on the Saginaw river in Michigan though.

We sometimes take vacations just to tour a museum ship. Mrs. Henkster is a saint. You should do that sometime.

She is old and worn. But its too bad she couldnt be turned into a museum. Oddly enough, the same thing has been said about Hillary Clinton.

Well said!
In a just world, she’d still be living on the taxpayer’s dime, but it would be in a federal penitentiary.

Please do, it will give you some appreciation of the living and working conditions a sailor lives through on a daily basis. Looking back on my time aboard several Navy ships, I wonder how we survived. LOL!

Her (USS Edson) exceptionally meritorious service in 1964 in the Gulf of Tonkin was recognized with the first of three Navy Unit Commendations. During the following years she was shelled by North Vietnamese land forces, and apparently received friendly fire from the US Air Force.

Not the only ship this happened to. The USS Joseph Strauss DDG-16 (my second ship), was mistaken for a truck convoy (at night off the coast of VN) and had several bombs dropped in her general direction ... luckily they missed.
