Head Start Still Unfinished
Accuracy in Academia ^ | April 13, 2015 | Malcolm A. Kline

Try as they might, when proponents of early federally funded pre-school education ala Head Start try to make the case for their cause, they can’t quite seal the deal. “There is one study that shows that the benefits of pre-K education will wash out after four years,” Governor Terry McAuliffe, D-VA, claimed at the Center for American Progress (CAP) on Friday, April 10, 2015.

He then said, “I’ve talked to kindergarten teachers who say it makes a difference.” But kindergarten would fall within that four-year window and he offered no examples of studies that show differing conclusions.

Maybe this is the one study he was thinking of. “Head Start, created in 1965, is intended to provide disadvantaged children a pre-school boost,” Lindsey Burke and David Muhlhausen of the Heritage Foundation wrote in an op-ed which appeared in 2010. “But before now, no one knew whether the program, after a total taxpayer investment exceeding $170 billion, was living up to its promise.”

“In the late 1990s, Congress finally mandated a national evaluation to measure its effectiveness. This year, the results were finally released: Former Head Start participants were no better off than their non-Head Start peers by the end of first grade.”

In the forum at CAP this month, Chattanooga, Tennessee Mayor Andy Berke acknowledged that Vanderbilt University did a study that came to the washout conclusion, although he averred that there were other studies that showed different results. Nevertheless, Mayor Berke said, “As far as I’m concerned, if we can help kids for four or five years, it’s money well spent.”

By the way, Victoria Sears of the Fordham Institute wrote of the Vanderbilt study that, “Though surely disappointing, these findings accord with many earlier studies of preschool effects [most conspicuously a raft of HeadStart evaluations], most of which indicate that cognitive gains made by disadvantaged preschool students are not sustained once in school.”

Have you ever noticed that most of the things that elites tell us are "settled questions" really aren't?

Was Head Start initiated by liberals?

Then why, oh why, do we even have to seek proof that it has failed?

Didn’t someone once say that government programs are proof of immortality?

What Head Start does is to allow the government to require a whole plethora of inoculations not needed or before they are needed without Head Start participation. I have been told that this surplus of injections at an early age of the infant can seriously impair a child’s overall health and mental function for years to come. FWIW

No different from peers in the same socio-economic class or all peers?

If they were no different from all peers, regardless of economic status, then Head Start would be a huge success.

A close relative was a Head Start teacher for over 20 years, most people at Free Republic would be stunned to know the life many young children have.

Many have never eaten at a table or from a plate, have never followed a verbal direction, have never had a book read to them, eaten a vegetable, etc.

Not defending a government program, but these children have no hope of learning Kindergarten level instruction until they have learned how to listen to an adult, follow instructions and sit still.

That seems intuitively obvious. But the studies show that whatever advantage you get from correcting those horrible circumstances before school starts go away within a year or two. This suggests that the normal school system is capable of correcting those issues and moving those kids into the mainstream, without the need of spending hundreds of billions of dollars.

That money therefore seems to be wasted. There are plenty of ways to spend that money that would not be wasted, by the taxpayers themselves, or on the rare government programs that are necessary, authorized, and work.

“Preschool” was Lenin’s creation. All of it is for the destruction of the Christian Worldview-—of the Natural Family and the destruction of the Truth that all young children should be controlled and trained ONLY by their biological parents and extended family (as God-Designed). . The bonding and connection to the past and future is essential for Culture and Wisdom transmission-—and Virtue formation.

All preschools are set up to embed emotions-—and group think-—to eliminate Individuality and self-reliance. To create controlled, dependent “thinkers” (only emotional “thinkers”-—to destroy Reason and Logic-—(control over base emotions). Fixation in puerile stages will occur and maturity will be greatly hindered, especially from the modeling of peer behaviors which are always destructive and immature for the most part—embedding mistrust and hate into children at early ages which will destroy the ability to “think” like a Christian.

Without this Reality of male/female “family”, “normal” becomes whatever the State dictates and children will be made to believe “snow is black” (Fichte 1810). Artificial environments always create “warped” Realities and such a destruction of Wisdom (Common Sense), that any absurd Marxist idea becomes “Truth”——and God will be surely killed in their minds. (they become like the Ferguson crowd-—godless animals).

“Preschool” was Lenin’s creation.

And the Nazis expanded on it. Lenin and Stalin provided the blueprint for a lot of things the Nazis imposed.

No preschool can help kids who are being raised by the community because the mother is in prison and the father is unknown. These kids are doomed with or without Headstart.
